Reviews for Rugged Ridge Aluminum Hood Catch for 07-18 Jeep Wrangler JK
I purchased the aluminum latches, they were easy to install and look great. Pull the 6 plastic pins from the top of the grill and tilt the grill forward for easier access to the bottom latch.
Great product, completely eliminated hood flutter. Install was quick, only downside i encountered was on the Rubicon Hard Rock vented hood, the latch corners will contact the paint due to the recessed area where the latches seat. This can be fixed by reusing the stock plastic spacer in addition to the new plastic spacer to give it enough lift away from the hood. Overall a small hiccup for a generally well designed product. Happy trails!
Sturdy latches for sure. But after two years, the finish on the forward facing front is corroding away in the exact same spot on both. I'm sure this is only going to get worse now over time. The install was tricky, so not looking forward to doing this over again.
2015 JKU Rubicon Hard Rock. Needed another rubber grommet under hood latch to clear hood. Coating is starting to flack off after 1 year.
paint came off after short time.
They look really good and get rid of the hood filter but after a year the powder coat comes off and they start to look terrible. If the paint was better it would be 5 stars.
Had these for a few years now but the paint started coming off after the first winter leaving the white powdery substance like all jeep hinges do after 10 years. I need to change my battery the other day and I couldn't open the latches because they were frozen which I think is compounded by the deteriorating metal. Stopped the road flutter though. I am going to try stainless latches next. I recommend that you skip the aluminum step and go directly to stainless.
Came with defective part, horrible time getting rugged ridge to respond. I don’t like the plastic retaining clips either once the hood is latched. Well see how it holds up if rugged ridge ever responds so I can get it installed.
Would not fit my stock Wrangler. Installed as instructed, but threads on latch were too short, I could engage only 1 thread. Not sure how this can happen, since this product is supposedly designed specifically for my Wrangler, but it clearly did not fit.
I liked the latches at first. But after a year the powder coating started flaking off. Really unhappy with them now.
