Reviews for Smittybilt XRC GEN 1 Rear Bumpers for 07-18 Jeep Wrangler JK
Someone said you get what you pay for. That's only true because SB released the Gen 2 XRC. The bumper is solid and looks great. However, It took way too much effort (and 3 diff ppl, including myself) to get the 4th bolt to go through the hitch plate (passenger side) and the passenger side bolt into the frame rail (closest to the bumper). I've had the bumper on my 2016 for a week and haven't been able to install the tire carrier brace because of what SB thinks is a defect. The bolts that secure the post sleeve prevent installing the brace with the carrier in the closed position :( After shipping a new set of bolts, SB is now shipping me a new tire carrier. Finger crossed. Quadratec was great for purchase and shipping experience.
The bumper is very heavy and sturdy and looks like it'll take a beating. Instructions were ok and the hardware was all there. My problems with this bumper are, (1) I had to elongate the mounting bolt holes on the passenger side of the bumper so that the corner of the bumper wouldn't hit the body (couldn't even get the bolts in that side without it hitting), (2) even with an aftermarket adjustable tire carrier like the Terraflex HD completely maxed out, my 35x12.50s are against the bumper. I've got the carrier set up for a 37 inch tire and slid out almost as far as it'll go and its still pressed against the bumper. If you're buying this bumper, get the bumper mounted carrier with it and plan on having to do some extra work to get the bumper to bolt up.
It doesn't fit bigger tires. It makes it hard to close rear door. We now got to buy a tire carrier.
Solid bumper, tire carrier not so good should have spent a little more for something better will not work with OE third brake light. Came with a box of bolts and poor instructions.
I bought the Jeep used and it came with this. I hate this bumper/tire carrier. Looks great, but it NEVER stays locked or in place. The pin keeps jumping out of the locked position and swings open when driving. I have to tie it down and it makes opening the rear such a hassle. Worst worst ever. I WISH I could find a resolution to this because other than that... it's fine.
The only thing that can be said about this bumper is it looks good. Terrible directions. I mean horrendous, NOTHING FITS. You’ll be lucky to get half the bolts to line up. Then onto the tire carrier. DONT BUY IT. Nothing lined up at all took 4 hours of grinding out pieces, fabricating new pieces to make things work. Oh and if you want to make the 3rd brake light usable hope you have some extra wire on hand because you have to extend the harness yourself to make it fit with what’s provided. This product is worth about $100 with the nonsense involved to make it work. Highly suggest buying something else.
Built good. Was a bear to line up. Ended up rubbing the body pan. Took to Dodge for creaking sound and they diagnosed the noise as the bumper mis-designed. Cost me $100 at the dealer as was not warrantable. Had to saws all off a portion of the side bracket on both sides. Emailed S@#ttybilt with no reply. Shoulda bought a Quadratec rear bumper instead..
