Reviews for Smittybilt XRC GEN 1 Rear Bumpers for 07-18 Jeep Wrangler JK
Awesome look - exactly what I was going for. Installed in less than a day (along with front bumper and other items) but had to come back the next day for additional work to route the wiring for the stop light. I ended up drilling a hole close to the tire carrier post, fit a rubber grommet inside and chased a 3/8" wire conduit down the backside of the stop light post, across the bottom horizontal beam of the carrier, through the grommet and up the right rear side of behind the tail light. Tied into the original stop light cables there. Otherwise super smooth operation, no rattling and I love that the hitch is rated!
Solid, looks good, everything fit properly on the bumper. Great finish. Still waiting for the tire carrier to arrive. They lost one star for quality of the directions (zero mention of what washers go where). They recommend 2 peeps to install, and I agree, however I managed to balance it easily enough on a hydraulic car jack and jockey it into position. The receiver hitch bolts all slid home with a little jiggling of the bumper. Nut plates for the side bolts take patience, and I had to jack up one side of the bumper to get the bolts in but really not any big issue. Took me 3 hours solo without busting my butt to get it done. Would buy again/recommend.
Looks great and a high quality bumper but Smittybilt can't align 4 holes in the bumper to match the frame? come on. you can do better than that. Only 3 Bolts fit!
I have a 2015 Jk and it fits perfectly. Nice solid bumper. I'm giving it four stars because I just put it on, it was easy to install, it was inexpensive, and it looks great. Will it stand the tests?
I received this bumper as a gift from my wife. I installed it myself with a motorcycle jack. As others have said, the holes in the cross member needed a little "adjusting" to allow the bolts to go in. The top edge of the bumper interfered with the factory spare tire. I used an off-set mount to gain additional clearance before I added the Teraflex Alpha carrier. Overall it is a good value and finish has held up well.
My review is on the GEN I bumper w/o tire carrier. I am satisfied with my purchase. This is my second bumper only GEN I bumper purchase (previous was on a 2014 JK 2-door). The bumper fit as instructed and I was able to complete using an old chair. This install can be accomplished by one person but at least two is probably the minimum required. The hardest part I had was removing the old factory tow point; having 2012 JK the part was well fused/ ceased and I used a reciprocating saw to remove most of the bolts. I am waiting on back ordered shackles to complete the install (also from Quadratec) but the basic installation is complete. I am satisfied and recommend this bumper as low budget and sturdy made bumper that came with all required hardware and little trouble to install.
This won’t allow a bad review- I wouldn’t buy this! This bumper no matter what you do still hits my jeep body-so since there is no other way to fix you need to enlarge the holes even bigger than they state you so to drop it so it doesn’t damage your jeep not a good design.
Nice bumper, very solid and very heavy. Need a hand holding it up while you bolt it in so it doesn't fall on your face. Instructions were ok but there's not a lot of moving parts so wasn't very complicated. Not a mechanic and got it done with a helper in an easy afternoon. The tire carrier fits too snug on the stock wheels unfortunately. The third brake like works good if you don't mind rerouting the wire along the carrier. I opted to cut up and grind down the stock tire carrier to only the top four bolts and use it as a third brake light so that my tailgate swings independently.
Great quality bumper and the tire carrier is heavy duty. If you want to relocate the third tail light you have some rewiring to do otherwise you have to swing the tailgate away with the tire carrier and that doesnt work at all. Youre gonna need to run a wire down the tire carrier to the swing joint then into the tailgate and back to the harness inside in a way that allows enough slack for the carrier to swing freely from the vehicle. Its a pain but not a huge take away from the bumper itself.
Installation was easy, love the way it looks. After a few years of being installed 2 issues, the rear break light bracket broke easily and the latch that holds the tire carrier closed doesn't hold after a few bumps it swings open. Hopefully there is a recall on both of those.
