Reviews for Go Rhino D14506T Dominator D1 Side Steps for 18-20 Jeep Wrangler JL Unlimited
The steps themselves look great on the Jeep, and provide much needed assistance for the vertically challenged (like myself) getting in and out.
The instructions, however, leave much to be desired. I'll also comment like the other reviewers that it's easier to assemble the steps off the Jeep, and then bolt them up. I'd like to add that it's a good idea to clean the threads on the plates inside the steps with a tap before installing because the paint was pretty caked up on mine and I couldn't get the bolts in. 5 minutes with a tap fixed that.
The Go Rhino Dominator side step look great on my new Wrangler JL. I like the brawny look. The installation took me about 3 hours. The mounting instructions and picture are not very good. I recommend installing the brackets first on both side before mount the steps. Mounting the side steps was difficult due to the nut ties. The nut ties slide inside the rails but are loose, which made it hard to pin the bolts to the brackets. The mounting process took approximately 2 hours. This was a single person installation. I used the car jack and a 2x6 wood board to lift and balance the sides step while I bolted them down. All in all, I like the look. I give Go Rhino a C- for the installations instructions. Otherwise I would have given the product a 5 star.
I just put these on my Rubicon and I have to say I am loving the way they look. Makes it so much easier to get in and out and my Jeep too without putting wear on the edge of the seats. Install was an absolute pain. One side took me about 2.5 hours while the other took 30 minutes after I got the hang of it. I tried installing the brackets first then the rails and it was a large pain. Screw plates are loosely put in the step and trying to get them in place is a nightmare. Would've been much easier having them measured and welded in place at the factory. They also mixed up the brackets as well and didn't separate them during packing. The front and back plates look very similar but one is just a little longer than the other and has to go in front for the screw holes to line up. Other than install being a pain I love the way these look and feel.
Install absolutely sucked! Instructions were missing pages 1&2 and the instructions what were included were not helpful at all. What should have taken 1-2 hours took far longer.
Side steps look great now that they're on, but plan for much longer install time than advertised. I would have given a five-star review if the installation was not so difficult.
Unfortunately I had some serious problems installing these side steps. The instructions call for a one hour install, which may be correct if the parts were manufactured properly. Installing the mounting brackets was very simple. However, when you get to the task of installing the side steps to the brackets the welded on nuts on the L brackets do not line up properly with the slot in the side steps. The nuts are welded too low on the L brackets, which makes it impossible to get the bolts started in the nuts. In my case, rather than returning the side steps, I decided to cut out slots in the back of the side steps where the bolts go into the welded on nuts. This worked but it sure was a pain to have to modify the side steps to make them work. Once installed they look great. It would be nice if the manufacturer would correct the problem of the nut welded too low on the L bracket to make it easier on the next person that has to install them. Additionally, make sure you look at the mounting brackets closely, as two of them are a little bigger and those go towards the front on each side. I have photos of the improperly aligned nuts but not sure how to submit the photos.
WOW!!! I should have read the reviews, as my wife suggested, before I started this installation. It is ridiculous!!!! It looks great, but whoever designed this, should be fired and never allowed to work again. There is no easy way to install this.... it is difficult and will take years off of your life....oh, and it is not a one person install. The directions are completely useless.
The hardest install ever, instructions are terrible, very difficult to mount. I have mounted numerous side steps by myself, this set took three people and much frustration. Looks great once they are on the vehicle.
The Side steps originally came in damaged after waiting 2 months to receive them, but Quadratec saved the day and sent new ones as a replacement the next day. Just like the other reviews mention, put the brackets “loosely” on the side steps and then install everything to the Jeep. Don’t follow the supplied instructions. I also had to clean all the paint out of the threads so it would easily install. But most importantly, My wife loves them now that they are finally on her new Jeep.
Good look, TERRIBLE engineering for installation!
They look nice and have a different style but whoever came up with the installation design needs to be fired. I have installed lift kits, bumpers and about everything else and never seen a worse process. Do NOT mount the brackets 1st per the instructions if you try these! Also the finish isn't that durable.
