Mountain Off-Road Oil Pan & Transmission Skid Plate Reviews
This is a sturdy skid plate that offers good protection to the oil pan and transmission. Install was straightforward and easy, even on my 4-year-old Jeep. I like the hefty supports that bolt to the engine mounts and the close fit that does not create any loss of ground clearance. My stock exhaust clears the skid plate without any contact or rattling as many others have stated. I only have two minor gripes. First of all, I wish that all of the cross member bolts provided would have had the recessed washers on them instead of only the middle bolt. Secondly, even with the "baffle", this skidplate has to deflect oil from the drain plug, the oil flowed over the top of the skidplate and made a huge mess all over my driveway the first time I changed the oil. Since then, I have used a cut-up beer can to create a type of funnel to block oil from flowing over the top and creating an Exxon Valdez type environmental disaster each time I change the oil. Neither of my gripes gives me any reason to knock off stars as this skid plate can take a hit and protect the soft underbelly of my JKU.
Overall I'm extremely pleased with this product. This skid is beefy and solid, giving you the protection you need for the trail. Watch the YouTube videos ok the install before install; the directions have you install the skid from the back to front, but from what I read and even the MORE install video have you install the skid from the front to back. The exhaust system could come into contact with the skid but an easy fix would be placing 2-3 washers between the skid and crossbar giving you about a 1/4 inch wiggle room which is all you need.
Installation was not difficult but having another person would have helped. After I installed I felt small vibration which ended up being the crossover exhaust tube rubbing on skid plate. Called Quadratec and service rep said there was not a spacer and they had not received this complaint for my 2008 JK Rubicon. I e-mailed MORE and was told “You need to bend to exhaust hanger up right above where you are making contact. Should get you enough clearance.” There was not exhaust hanger above skid plate in the area is rubbing. I ended up taking it to a muffler shop which they cut cross tube and moved up 1” so I have enough clearance. So far so good on protecting oil pan and transmission.
