Westin Oil Pan & Transmission Skid Plate Reviews
Overall, I'm happy with the product for my Jeep Wrangler JKU. While I don't do rock crawling, I did want some protection for trails.
The install was easy enough, but I DID have a lot of difficulty mounting the motor mount bracket bolts--even loose fitting them. Looking back, I would have replaced bolt/nut hardware all together and saved some time as a couple of the bolts did not thread well. But, the overall fit of the product was very nice. Once you are past the motor mount bracket bolts, the rest is really easy.
Initially, the passenger motor mount bracket seemed a bit close to the transmission lines. But, if you loose fit everything, once the plate is mounted it will push them out to provide plenty of clearance. The 17mm bolts for the motor mounts bolts are blocked by the sway bars and my motor mount bolts were actually 16mm. Use a crowfoot wrench to make easy work of them. But, of course, I struggled with other tools for 20 min until I finally grabbed the crowfoot.
The plate rests about 1/4" from the pan and appears as though there will be plenty of clearance for an oil change without a spillage into the plate. For trans service, however, it will have to be removed.
Very happy with this product. Fit was perfect. Went on in about 45 minutes.
Very easy install. Well made; stout; brackets are a lot sturdier than they look in the pictures. I like that it has holes to lighten it as well as let trail crud wash out so it doesn't collect on top. Not the absolute best out there as far as crunching down on rocks, BUT if you don't wheel THAT hard I think it's entirely a good compromise between cost, weight, and protection. It doesn't seem to reduce overall clearance. Should be OK at stock suspension articulations but I haven't had the chance to test it. Good cheap insurance against punching your oil pan!
