EVO Manufacturing Protek Oil Pan Skid Plate Reviews
I put the engine oil pan skid plate on my 2015 Willys JKU. If you’re smart about it you can avoid the oil change. I parked it and let the motor cool completely and then gently removed all the bolts/nuts holding it on. I eased the skid plate up over the original oil pan and hand tighten everything. Maybe you could torque everything to spec using a crows-foot extension? I had no way to do that with the tools I had at hand. So I opted to use a short wrench and snug everything down by feel. I re-checked it two or three times over the next week and found a few that needed retightened a bit. After that I used a marker to visually make sure that nothing was backing out. I’ve got over 3,000 miles (highway) and will hit the trail again soon. I’ve done a bit of wrenching so I felt comfortable with this route. Don’t over tighten the bolts! Very happy with the product so far!
I love this product very much and I gave it 5 stars. Excellent quality. There are some things worth noting. #1 there is almost no clearance between the outer wall of the plate and the bolt heads that you to install the plate to the engine. Most of the bolts you can't get the thinnest socket onto and can only tighten with a wrench. I have no idea how you're supposed to properly torque these bolts since you can't get a socket on them. I ended up just using the guestination method and it worked fine with no leaks. You are bolting into aluminum so I was really nervous tightening the bolts afraid of stripping one but all went well. Even with that difficulty I think it's a very solid product and I would buy it again if needed.
