Quadratec Aluminum Modular Engine & Transmission, Transfer Case and Rear Transfer Case Skid Plates Reviews
Well designed, easy to install, and two very unexpected benefits that have nothing to do with the intended purpose of the skid plates:
The first time I drove my JK after installing the skid plate system, I immediately noticed the chassis of the Jeep felt much “stiffer” than it did before. Road feel was improved, as well as handling and cornering. It felt like a completely different vehicle. The skid plates and the crossmembers tie the frame rails together much better than the factory crossmembers, and the result is a much more rigid feel to the whole vehicle. It completely changes the character of the Jeep. Normally I’d get some barely perceptible “flex” through the frame when leaving a stop, just as the clutch fully engages and I’m rolling on the throttle in first gear. You’d feel this as the left front corner up the Jeep rising slightly as you start to move. But now that little bit of flex in the frame is absolutely gone.
It was also MUCH quieter inside. I didn’t realize how much road noise from the tires comes up through the floor of the tub and radiates into the cab. The skid plates deflect a lot of this noise, and bring the noise levels inside down noticeably.
Obviously the real purpose of the skid plates are to protect the vulnerable areas under the Jeep and allow it to slide across rocks rather than getting hung up on a component or having a rock damage part of the driveline. And that’s why I bought it. But the two other benefits I’ve observed are something I can appreciate daily driving, rather than just on trails.
Highly recommend. Went on with ease.
Very well made and easy to put on, fit like a glove, instructions were clear and well wrote
