Reviews for Mountain Off-Road DPJL18DS Driver Side Dead Pedal for 18-21 Jeep Wrangler JL & Gladiator JT
If you own a Jeep Gladiator you must add this dead pedal! Although I love my Jeep I knew very early on that my left leg was just dangling in space...like outer space. I'm 6' 1" and all legs, and yet I thought it was weird that my left leg could not touch the back of the firewall. This add-on by Mountain Off-Road is beyond awesome. Installation took only about a half hour. Here are a couple of tips I want to share: (1) After you install the "backing plate" that has the two welded bolts, put 3M blue masking tape around the plate to hold it into place. I found that if you don't, it will slide off in the back as you attempt to install the "mounting plate" as you're aligning the bolt holes; (2) I started with the very back mounting position but quickly realized that the very first (front) mounting position was perfect for me, even with my height and long legs. The very front position is about equal to the brake pedal and feels very natural. That's it! You won't regret getting this product.
This was described by many as difficult to install, so I had reservations when headed to the garage. Yes, it is a tight fit, yes, it is an odd angle to work from, but the install was quick. About 20 minutes. I would add that I used a piece of electrical tape to wrap around the bracket after putting it into position, which kept the bolts from being pushed back during the installation of the mounting bracket.
Great addition to my JL, it should be ''factory''
The installation is simple, make sure you choose the proper position of the pedal ( 3 options, I measure 5,11 and I selected the shortest one )before you tighten the support to the Jeep, because you have start all over again...
Comfortable. Wasn’t as hard to install as some of reviews led me to believe, but I’m used to installing things by feel so it made it easier for me. It’s worth it once you have it in.
An absolute must for JT/JL with auto trans! As noted by others, why Jeep does not include is curious. I have one in our '13 JK and again think it is a must. Once it is installed you will see it is very natural position for your left foot and will quickly 'forget' it is there and just use it! It took me about 30 min to install - but I did review the location it was going into on my Gladiator as the packaging did not list the Gladiator and took the advice from other reviews. The main advice, secure the back plate to the mounting location to keep it from falling. I used a piece of tape with a long tail to ensure any fumble could easily be recovered. once in place I did add another swatch of tape to ensure it would stay in place. Once the pedal position is tightened to the bracket, secure the front bolt. The back nut is tough to get to so having the front on keep everything in place. Would recommend M.O.R.E. dead pedal for any JL/JT owner with an auto trans - great quality and fitment.
Great product. Not sure why Jeep wouldn’t install these on all automatics. As in other reviews I would agree that it’s not easy. Hint: use a small spring clip ( I used one that would hold a bag of chips closed). Free’s up your other hand. Still takes about 30 minutes to install. Well worth it to have a place to put my left foot.
A must have add to the jl Jeep .
Nice to have a place to rest my left foot. Installation is easy for the average contortionist.
It's a little tight under the dash. Once the nuts are started on the backing plate the rest is easy. I haven't seen it available anywhere else.
Easy to install and adjust. Great add-on to the JL for long rides. Highly recommend for any JL owner.
It took quite a bit of effort to install this dead pedal, but after I did a few McGyver rigs to make installing this pedal it was a breeze, for instance I used a piece of gorilla tape to hold that flange with the two welded bolts, it didn't work like I hoped, next I rolled up some cardboard and wedged it between that same flange and the frame of the truck to hold it in place, that worked very well and now it looks, and feels great, and the driving experience is a lot more comfortable especially with my very long legs, and now I don't have to rest my knee on the window crank. I might have to re-tighten the nuts on that flange after a couple of weeks of use, but that's normal, I've experienced this many times with nuts and bolts over the years of working on cars, and trucks.
