Reviews for Quadratec Maximum Duty Hydro 7.0 Shock Kit for 84-06 Jeep Cherokee XJ & Wrangler TJ
The shocks themselves are great. Soft but not spongy. Great replacement for my 26 year old beater. Installing the rubber grommets that go in the eye of the shock suck. Got them to work but an hour of install was used on assembling that one piece.
Nice shocks, out of stock and had to wait for them.
They are very good shocks. However, they didn't set the pins or bushings so you have to do it yourself. It's kind of a pain to do. The trick to it is grease. I don't have a bench vise or even a garage so it took awhile to get them in but it can be done with grease, a rubber mallet and brute strength. I should have made a video of me doing it. Please feel free to email me if you need some advice on it. [email protected]
Ok. Who’s idea was it not to put the bushings in the shocks? Plus there was no instructions on how to get them in. A hammer, wedge and vaseline did the trick. What a pain in the butt!!!! If you’re not gonna put in instructions please add callers to the help line. That is my only complaint. The test ride around my house seems pretty good.
Had to do a little Jerry rigging with these. Didn’t come with new bolts for the front mounts, and the back shocks came with weird pronged mounts that are not right for the 04 Cherokee. I ended up using the steel inserts from the old shocks and putting them into the new ones. Make sure you have a vice and ample patience to install the rubber pieces into these shocks!
The price is great and they do seem to function as advertised, my issues are on the installation. The rear bottom bushing sleeve inserts would not fit over the mount and I had to mount it without the steel sleeve. The other issue is the whole common getting the bar pin and bushing inserted... I ended up going with a bar pin eliminator. I gave two stars because of the sleeves not fitting the stock mount. let me know if they are not required and I will change the rating.
I've had the hydro shocks under my 2000 TJ for just over a year now. They gave my Jeep a horrible ride. I should have went with the nitros. These shocks replaced my very old, rusty, leaky, Skyjacker Nitros and the ride actually degraded with the new shocks. If I hadn't tossed the old shocks immediately I would have put them back on.
Seemed nice out of the box and super easy to install. My issue is with the length. I got them in 6-8” and have about 6.5” of lift on my xj. They are at full drop at ride height. Very uncomfortable driving and no flex on trails due to this. Anytime I put the keep on jack and let rear drop I have to take shocks off or it won’t move. I’m not sure if they sent the wrong size or what. Still waiting on a email back.
