Reviews for Quadratec QRC Side Armor with Step for 87-06 Jeep Wrangler YJ & TJ
Heavy duty. Love the look. Had a bit of trouble getting the self tapping bolt to self tap. Ended up just using my tap and die set to tap the holes.
Side Armor great product. Good luck on install. The 3/8 self tappers into jeep frame is a joke. If you don't have an air impact driver then don't attempt this install. You will need a second person for help. I installed this product on two jeeps so I know what I'm talking about. Bolts will strip out because the frame is harder steel then the bolts. Plan on breaking several drill bits and step the hole size up slowly. Have fun and walk away when you get mad.
Extremely durable and has worked perfect for my 2002 Jeep. The 3 stars is for the issue of the holes on the steps not matching up on my frame, so I was forced to make more holes.
To start the running boards look great. For the installation it has a lot to be desired, the bolts provided are to soft to do what they were designed to do. I had to get a tap and dye set to tread the holes to install them and a special holder for the tap so I could use a ratchet. I did call Quadratec on the issue and to get replacement bolts, the bolts are on back order and they didn’t offer any compensation.
Same problems the others mention on my 04 TJ
I have every tool known to man and stripped half the bolts trying to get them to grab on just the passenger side.
These guards are also pretty long
I run 33” tires and 35” will probably hit at the rear , no real way to push them forward due to the style brackets on the rails.
For only a couple bucks they coulda supplied some better bolts.
Do. NOT. Buy. Bolts are trash material and not sized correctly. The bolts strip out super fast. The steps themselves are impossible to drill the forward holes without cutting away a portion of the inner fender. The mount plates don’t sit flush on the frame. But hey they look nice. If I could return this for a full refund I would, but I’ve already cut my fender away and drilled holes so I’ll force it to work. Please save yourself the aggravation and buy something else. I’ve done this three times before on other vehicles with other steps/rails. It’s really not supposed to be that challenging. Mark, drill, screw, done. Good luck to you if you choose to buy this product after reading my experience.
