Reviews for Pypes Performance Exhaust SJJ21R High Clearance Cat-Back System in Stainless Steel for 07-18 Jeep Wrangler JK
I love this exhaust. I love hearing my exhaust. It is not obnoxious, but just loud enough to hear. I installed this with the pacesetter y-pipe, and I have no regrets. I would recommend this product.
I love it! Sounds and looks great. Install was super simple, if you discount the extra work of having to remove the stock exhaust. Fortunately, most of my OEM exhaust had rusted off so muffler was easy to detach. Getting the old mid-pipe off of the down-pipe took an angle headed grinder for cutting a slit down one side and then peeling the old pipe away enough to get it loose. My old hangers had rusted off the pipes so removing them was a challenge. Once all that work was done, installing the new one took very little time. Thanks for a great product at a reasonable price!
This will make your Jeep sound like a muscle car at an idle. At slow speeds it sounds like it has some real power behind it. But at high speeds you will sound like a supped up Acura! But hey, its a Jeep! Its not built for speed! Its built to go ANYWHERE! I am very happy with the sound and the slight increase in HP and MPG, however slight it may be! For the install, it does require cutting. I had NO luck with my Sawzall and ended up cutting the pipe by hand. I do wish it had come with better instructions for removing the old exhaust, but removal is not the fault of Pypes.
Got this system for my 2010 Wrangler after my Gibson muffler rusted out due to the salt used in the Midwest during the winter. I had been considering a high tuck exhaust for a while, especially after I smashed the tips of the Gibson exhaust on rocks during a Jeep Jamboree. I ended up picking this system for the same reason another reviewer did, the corrosion resistance of T304 steel. As for the sound, it is a bit quieter than the Gibson, but I've only had it on a couple weeks and its still breaking in. I have noticed it starting to mellow out to a smoother tone, and at idle it's very tame. Keep in mind that I have a 2010 2 door, so it has a 3.8 and had no resonator from the factory so it sounds good to me. But considering the differences between the 3.8 and 3.6, I can see why Jeepers with a Pentastar might not enjoy this exhaust as much. When it came to the install, me and my dad spent about 3 hours in his buddy's garage, with 2 and a half of those hours being spent fighting the old exhaust with 8 years worth of rust (there was much cutting, swearing, and bloodied and bruised knuckles). The Pypes exhaust went on in about half an hour, trimming the midpipe for the 2 door length included. And I'm glad they include new rubber exhaust hangers, because we ended up destroying the old ones trying to get them off. And a tip to make your life easier would be to drop the transfer case skid plate prior to working on the exhaust so you don't have to work around it and you get more space. Overall I am very happy with this exhaust, just be aware that the sound will differ quite a bit depending on if you are running a 3.8 or 3.6 motor.
Awesome sound and look. Easy to install. Better MPG and HP. Would recommend to anyone looking for better performance, sound, and MPG.
Lot's of people complaining about the "raspy" and "rice like" sound. They are correct. However every custom exhaust I've heard on the JK fits both of those descriptions as far as I am concerned. Some more than others of course. There is a simple fix and I believe it is easier on this kit than others. Install a resonator. When you remove the stock exhaust you are removing both a muffler and a resonator. A resonator will remove the raspy and rice like sound. The sound is quite mellow, but deep, kind of like a pair of good glass packs on a small V8. The design of this kit makes adding a resonator simple, at least on a four door. There is a lot of room to do it. The large straight pipe in the kit simply gets cut to make room for the resonator. If I remember correctly you need a 2-1/2 inch inlet/outlet resonator. They are all over the internet from $40 to $200. Do some research and take your pick. Easy install.
Very easy install, just be sure to read all instructions and tips here and on YouTube. Sounds great with the Volant 57636 Fast Fit F5 Series Air Intake. I think it was a little loud on its own. Too soon for any MPG stats, but HP seems improved. Great value for the $.
Great item. The old exhaust does need to be worked out. But when the old one was out it was a straight forward install. Does have a nice tone and sounds nice in the cab
Sounds great. Easy to install
Easy install, good price, we will see how it holds up. My previous aluminized model from another mfg DID NOT hold up to the brine that they treat the PA roads with. A better sound than stock, but not where I would want it in a perfect world. I would blame the engine and not the exhaust for the note. The clearance for offroading is worth it.
