Reviews for Kicker YJ-SPKUP Front Dash Speaker Replacement Kit for 87-95 Jeep Wrangler YJ
Well worth the money for the ease of installation . Took about a half hour to install both. Not to mention they sound great, big difference over stock
Good replacement speakers its a tight squeeze to get them in but the instruction good and made install easier.
Not an easy install but they work well and I didn't have to remove the dash to get em in.
I bought this kit to avoid the hassle of dropping the windshield as these are notorious for being a pain to replace. The template was wrong ever so slightly that the hole for the screw doesn't line up. Not a fan.
Nice fit a little expensive I saw the same pair online for less money
Cons:
The tool to locate the drill holes was dead nuts accurate on the driver side but missed about half of the stud on the passenger side.
The other tool to help you screw on the nuts was to large causing it to round out the tool. I put some strips of tape inside it and then it did the job.
The nuts are low quality which means it takes a little longer to get them threaded onto the studs. If they were easier to access it wouldn't be a huge issue but given the awkward angles it makes it tough.
Pros
The speaker being set up to plug into the factory harness made it easy to plug in. No dealing with butt connector or heat shrinking.
Loud enough to hear my music when cruising at 70, topless with loud tires and exhaust fighting it.
Overall they aren't the best sounding speakers in the world but far superior to what I had. Without the included tools I would have missed the studs entirely and spent more time screwing around on the nuts but weren't the highest quality. Next steps will be adding a few more speakers in the rear so I'm not needing two speakers to do all the work and finding a way to cover the incorrect holes because the machine screws didn't thread in.
Stars because the tools were low quality and caused unnecessary difficulty but the speakers sound good.
I have ordered dozens of items with no issues whatsoever, but these suck. Good luck with these as they won't fit without dislocating your shoulder. Passenger side, ten minutes. Driver's side, an entire evening with a torn up arm. I gave up on the studs that are included per the one stud per side mounting instructions. Don't buy these unless you're considering dropping your wind shield and folding it down along with disassembly of your dashboard. There unfortunately is no shortcut. I learned the hard way. They
Sound good enough but not good enough to justify the hell I went through to install them.
The key for this kit to work is drilling out the one inaccessible stud on each. However, using my template, the hole drilled did not hit the stud, only grazed it. Broke of the stud with pliers but hole is now in the wrong place. The tool for removing speed nuts is to big, turns freely sound the nut. Now I have a hole in my dash and the speaker hole will not match up with this hole. The idea is good, but the kits tools are useless. Bad kit, would not reccomend this product to anyone.
