Reviews for Rugged Ridge 11585.01 Heavy Duty Tire Carrier Mount for 87-06 Jeep Wrangler YJ, TJ & Unlimited
Unfortunately I've been had. Received the tire carrier in a timely manner but installing it is another story.. Everything was going smooth untill you have to install the 3 bolts for the lug nuts... the "M12" lock washers they send with this kit dont even fit over the bolts. I should've stopped there and gone to the local Ace Hardware to get correct lock washers. Instead i managed to get them on the bolts but as my luck would have it i messed up one of the bolts and didn't notice it till it was too late. It cross-threaded the tire mount and destoryed the "M12" bolt. So here I am looking at the massive selection of bolts at Ace hardware to replace the "M12" bolt. I buy another M12 bolt with a washer and lock washer and go buy a 12MM tap and tap handle. $25 later I get home and attempt to tap the messed up hole on the tire carrier......turns out a 12MM tap is not the size for a "M12" bolt from rugged ridge.... At this point I'm tired of messing with this thing and put the new M12 bolt in the messed up hole, because it's small enough to just go in the hole, and mounted the tire to the carrier and used a wrench and socket set to tighten the lug nut down and secure the tire to the carrier.... All in all I would buy this thing again, but i would just go ahead and run to the local Ace Hardware and get the correct washers to save the headache.
This is definitely a sturdy and simple product. The major issue with it, and it is BIG one, is that it claims to move your spare up 2 inches... but moves it up exactly 0 inches! It moves it out from your tailgate about 2 inches, but when I hold the old carrier up against this one as it is mounted on the Jeep, the wheel studs are exactly the height. This is totally unacceptable. Shame on you, Rugged Ridge!
The holes are drilled in the wrong places. Lighting $100 on fire would have been easier than dealing with this.
Sharing the same sentiment as some others on here that it doesn’t raise the tire, so using this with my new 33x12.50x15 tires and wheels with an aftermarket bumper is a fail because my tire won’t mount.
Very disappointed to have taken the time to mount this an find it does not actually RAISE the wheel at all...just pushes it out a couple inches. After messing with it a bit, I was able to get about a 1/4 inch up. Currently looking for a replacement.
Bolts are not aligning with the wheel. Have to return it. It looks sturdy and is easy to assemble but no good if the Jeep stock wheel won't fit.
