My tailgate has a rattle when I'm on bumpy roads or terrain. Is this designed to secure better to possibly eliminate the rattle?
The original could be worn out a bit allowing for movement, but this is already in place on the vehicle. This stabilizer takes some of the weight off of the latch pin when its closed. If you are experiencing rattling from the rear body, that is usually the hinges being worn and allowing the movement.

What exactly does this do??
This is a replacement part. This item relieves weight from the latch. When the tailgate is closed this item helps to lift and center the tailgate so the latch is not bearing multilateral loads.
