Mopar 04589890AC Tailgate Check Strap for 11-18 Jeep Wrangler JK
The Mopar Tailgate Check Strap for JK Wranglers is a genuine replacement for the rubber strap that has pulled out of the housing or has dried out and snapped. The check strap assembly is designed to keep the tailgate from swinging wide past the hinges. These straps are designed to accommodate factory tailgates with original size tires. Larger wheels and tires mounted on the tailgate or opening on extreme grades could cause factory style units to pull from the base, so an aftermarket solution may be in your future
Important Note: Inspect your tailgate hinges for signs of wear if your original tailgate check needs to be replaced. When used with hinges that have not changed, cases of premature failure have been reported. This is not due to a faulty check arm.

Load Limit: Maximum factory tire size of 32" is recommended, oversize wheel packages could cause unit to fail due to excessive weight strain.

Mopar Tailgate Check Strap Reviews
This is my 4th or 5th replacement tailgate check strap. This is an ambarrassment of Jeep engineering that these things break so often. Very poor design for the jeep. This OEM part is perfectly that - an OEM replacement and is fine in that regard.
Works great. The key, I learned, is to replace the tailgate hinges along with this product. The hinges are what really keeps the tailgate from opening too far. This product holds the tailgate open.
I have a 35 inch tire mounted on my tailgate. The factory hinge is not strong enough to support the extra weight. I have bought three now, good product for the intended use. I now have an after market tire carrier installed.
