Superchips Flashcal+ Reviews
I bought this with extreme trepidation. I am quite useless when it comes to working on my Jeep and if it wasn’t for my son-in-law I wound be out of a lot more money. HOWEVER I worried for nothing putting this Fiashcal+ Superchip in.
I watched the video 3 times before I went to the Jeep. Once in there one placement looked so simple,. The other place, where two plugs go in was not. I couldn’t see it! I had to take off the panel under the steering column. Then I had to contort myself to find the plug. The plugs do not come out easily. One did and the other was a real pain and I had to contort myself again before finally getting it out. The plugs easily went in place then I pushed the unit so it doesn’t rattle when driving. The second unit popped right on.
Next I downloaded the app (rated at one and a half stars!) and followed the directions on the phone. I did not change a ton of my settings. I did change the speedometer (main reason) and a few other tiny things.
I hope it works as advertised but it was basically fairly easy to install. If I could, anyone can.
Overall: I bought this for changing only a couple of features as it was less expensive than the competition. It is also nice to use the bluetooth with your smart phone to change or eliminate a feature at times.
Was it easy to install? I found it a PITA in a 2 door JL as I did not have enough floor space in front of the driver seat to look under the dash to install the bridge. [yes you MUST install the bridge for the OBDII dongle to work in a JL or JT]. Installation requires a mirror, patience, and a good flash light to make it happen. I'm sure if I had been in a mood to disassemble my under dash it would have been much easier.
OBDII dongle is a breeze once the bridge is installed. It permanently records the VIN into the system. Linking the dongle bluetooth to my phone was easy as well. Suddenly you have a lot of things you can change on the fly.
Value: it is worth the cost if you need to change a lot of parameters on your rig like tire sizes, gear ratios, lights, turn signals, etc. If not, then, like me, you are buying it for the convenience of changing a few irritation items. [such as turning off the %^&! engine on-off and the seat belt chime reminder features - [use it to turn off government intrusion alarms]. Changing the ignition splash screens is a value added feature.
This unit comes with limited [no] documentation - go online to find the YT video to assist you. BTW it will NOT double your engine HP. Have fun.
