Mopar Performance Snorkel Kit Reviews
Not for the faint of heart.
This is an awesome product, well made, actually does improve my JT acceleration and looks pretty cool.
The overall instillation of this elevated air intake device is pretty straight forward.
The Achilles heal is cutting a hole in your hood.
I enlisted my brother a seasoned Land Rover rebuilder and we went at it.
I watched as many you tube videos as I could find up front to decide which snorkel to buy and learn from others.
The Mopar version keeps access to the battery and I feel if your going in, go all the way.
So cutting the access hole is really tricky. I believe the overall process is certainly safer if you remove the hood. But it’s painted in the factory after the brackets are screwed on - so you have to basically chip them off the hood to detach it. When it was obvious this was probably gonna leave marks we decided to cut the opening “in situ” with the hood attached. If I ever get to do it again- I’m taking the hood off.
The mopar template is well designed. You have to cut the inner lining then cut the outer shell a bit smaller. Warning: As you go away from the outer edge towards the center of the hood the two layers actually meet. We cut a little into the outer layer a bit too high , so in the end the access hole is just a little to large for the intake connector. After a few deep breaths, and some F bombs we made adjustments and got the hood hole liners to fit. I’m darn lucky I have an older brother who can fix anything including his 1969 Land Rover.
This is a well made, well designed product, it’s up to you to make it happen if you dare.
Worth the risk….. Hell Yeah!! That’s why we drive a jeep.
