Black Horse Off Road Off Road Grille Guard Reviews
Protection
Just enough coverage for what I need
Great product. Here’s an installation tip:
You can still use the metal rock guard. Get a grinder and, from the first indention, plunge cut a vertical opening about a half inch wide on both sides working towards the middle. That’ll give you enough room to insert the brackets at an angle and get them over the studs supplied with the grille guard.
After doing this, take your plastic splash guard (off the Jeep) and attach the rock guard to it using the original connection point. Run the screws thru the metal part into the plastic part to connect them. Take a scribe and make a mark thru the middle of the cut you made in the metal piece onto the plastic piece. Use the grinder to remove about a half to three quarter inch of the plastic for the bracket to fit thru.
Install the metal piece under the Jeep, poke the bracket thru the splash guard and bolt it in. It’ll be difficult, you’ll likely cuss, but it’ll work. Now put in the plastic clips to hold the splash guard in place. Finish the install and go Jeeping.
If you do this, you won’t need the splash guard brackets supplied with the kit and, you’ll get to keep the metal rock guard. It’s a win-win. Plus, you won’t have a hole that’s bigger than you need in the splash guard and that’s a nice bonus. I did this by myself and the whole install took about three hours. Happy Jeeping!
