Reviews for Black Horse Offroad 17JPJLMA Off Road Grille Guard for 18-23 Jeep Wrangler JL
Protection
Just enough coverage for what I need
Great product. Here’s an installation tip:
You can still use the metal rock guard. Get a grinder and, from the first indention, plunge cut a vertical opening about a half inch wide on both sides working towards the middle. That’ll give you enough room to insert the brackets at an angle and get them over the studs supplied with the grille guard.
After doing this, take your plastic splash guard (off the Jeep) and attach the rock guard to it using the original connection point. Run the screws thru the metal part into the plastic part to connect them. Take a scribe and make a mark thru the middle of the cut you made in the metal piece onto the plastic piece. Use the grinder to remove about a half to three quarter inch of the plastic for the bracket to fit thru.
Install the metal piece under the Jeep, poke the bracket thru the splash guard and bolt it in. It’ll be difficult, you’ll likely cuss, but it’ll work. Now put in the plastic clips to hold the splash guard in place. Finish the install and go Jeeping.
If you do this, you won’t need the splash guard brackets supplied with the kit and, you’ll get to keep the metal rock guard. It’s a win-win. Plus, you won’t have a hole that’s bigger than you need in the splash guard and that’s a nice bonus. I did this by myself and the whole install took about three hours. Happy Jeeping!
I have not installed it yet. I thought I was going to have to cut the bars that extend around the headlights. Lucky for me they are bolt on and I don’t want them. The one in the photo above does not reflect this. There mY be more like me that only want the push bar center part. I suggest quad take an update photo and note that the sides bolt on to the center for guys like me who don’t want those bars around the headlights
Love the grill, looks great. However where it says no drilling or cutting required is not true for the Jeep gladiator you have to cut slots in the plastic piece under the bumper. It’s easy to do just be aware you need to do that.
3 rd grill guard I have had installed on my jeeps but first Black Horse. As with the other 2 it came with a dent in it from shipping. Install went as planned but I REPLACED ALL fasteners with stainless before installing.
