Reviews for Quadratec QRC Front Winch Ready Bumper for 07-18 Jeep Wrangler JK
This is a great bumper especially for the price. I would have given 5 stars but someone forgot to thread the holes. So I had to buy a metric tap & die set and tap the 8 holes before installing.
I bought the front, rear, and slider package they all look good and we're fairly easy to install. I did the installation in my driveway alone all total it took about 3 hours to install all three items.
I just installed the stubby version on my JKU and I'm satisfied with the product overall.
Quadratec answered a few customer questions on this page but the answers don't match my experience.
1st - You can install the winch after you install the bumper but depending on the size of your winch it will most likely be easier to install the winch before you put the bumper on. I was doing the install solo and I put the bumper on first thinking it would be easier without the added weight of the winch. You will need to reach into the bumper and thread the bolts up there in a very odd/awkward angle in an extremely tight space totally blind. I have tons of tools and I didn't have anything to get the bolts in so I ended up removing the bumper so I could mount the winch. I lifted the winch up onto the frame and used a floor jack to push it up and align the mounting holes.
2nd - You can certainly mount the bumper without relocating the vacuum pump but you will be hard pressed to mount some winches with the vacuum pump in the stock location. I have a Warn Evo 12 and the back of it is touching the vacuum pump. I ordered a relocation bracket and I'll likely have to remove the bumper to give me room to work on that.
3rd - The instructions say this bumper is rated for winches up to 10k lbs. but the answer on this pages says 12k.
Overall mounting the bumper was easy. Including running the wiring for the winch and taking the bumper off to install the winch and remounting the bumper it took me about 1.5 hours.
The shipping box it came in was a bit beat up and there were some chips on the bumper that needed touch up paint. LTL freight would be better than using UPS for something this heavy.
The bumper arrived undamaged and looks fantastic. I give this four stars because the instructions are naïve about how difficult it is to get the bolts in on the inside of the frame on the passenger side. Start to finish it took me five hours to install the bumper with winch including wiring everything. Let me say this; I am a perfectionist and this is not my first bumper and winch install. I have a fully equipped home shop with a lift and a winch. Helpful hint: Chase the bolt holes with a 12mm 1.75 tap BEFORE you start. When you get the bumper up to the frame install the two outer bolts on each out board side then drop the sway bar and install the bolt on the inboard side and torque all to spec.
Good price. Just wish there was a little more space between winch and front grill. Mine touch...will have to uninstall the bumper when I upgrade to LED headlights in order to get the grill off.
Very easy to put on and definitely changes the front of the Jeep. Installing new one is much easier than removing the stock since the bolt holes were so much easier to get to on this. I only give it a 4/5 since one of the bolts would only hand thread about 4 turns. No matter what I did it wouldn’t tighten anymore than that.
Love the bumper, looks really good mounted and workmanship of the bumper itself appears top notch. Its is heavy, but it should be if made with sturdy/strong steel of sufficient thickness to hold up to the trail. OE fog lights mounted easily using the push in threaded inserts. Total time to remove original bumper and mount new bumper was about 1 1/2 hours. Definitely needed a friend to help. Now the bad, reason for 4 stars and not five, two of the bolts broke when torquing them to the instructed 65 lbs. These were probably torqued to about 55 lbs when they broke. Not real confident with the installed bolts if these broke at less than 65 lbs torque. Will call Quadratec for replacements, but not sure how strong those will be! If these break as well may go outside Quadratec for the bolts and replace them all!
The first one came scratched. Sent it back not problems, they replaced it. 2 Bolts did not line up on the new one. Eventually had it machined and it fits fine now.
Looks great and an easy installation. This was easier to install then removing the factory OEM bumper. No damage to the shipping package all parts fit. Would give them 5 stars but in the directions did not state in what order the washers go on.
Bumper looks great, fits great. Mine came missing a couple nuts for the fog light screws but hardware store had them. A big pain in the butt with this install was that I have long fingers and as a result I couldn't get them behind the fog light housing bracket. It was literally impossible. I had to get my wife to help and even she had a hard time getting her fingers into position. I'd recommend a 5 year old as they have the best balance of hand size and cognitive ability. The bolt hole placement needs to be seriously reconsidered. The only other thing is that the main holes for frame bolts needed to be drilled out ever so slightly in order to line up with my '14 sport 2dr.
