Reviews for Quadratec Maximum Duty Nitro 8.0 Shock Kit for 07-18 Jeep Wrangler JK
3 stars because of the rear shocks. Note to buyers, you have install the bushings yourself. The rear shocks bushings require either a press or some creative engineering to install. This is the first time buying shocks in a long time and I don't remember having to install the bushings myself last time.
I should have read all the reviews, especially the one about the rear upper mounting bracket. If you're ordering these to save money, thats fine, just do yourself a favor and order a set of rear upper bar pin eliminators. The bushings are very hard to press in, you'll need a vice and if you press in the rear upper bushing with the pin bracket and have to take it out like i do, it's even a bigger pain. I don't know why Quadratec is still selling these with that bracket pin if customers are telling them it doesn't fit.
FOR DIY JEEPERS - READ ME FIRST! Will save you lots of time and effort if you're doing in the driveway with limited assortment of tools. Rear Upper brackets did not line up with bracket holes on Jeep. Ended up cutting out old brackets and using those. Pretty disappointing since I already had the new brackets pressed in but made it work. Make sure you have the right tools before starting, 16MM & 18MM box wrench and impact socket. Ended up using vise grips in place of the 18MM wrench. No instructions but not rocket science. Would've been nice for at least the hardware order for front shocks. Tip for fronts if top bolt is rusted or hard to get to like mine - remove bottom bolt then pull the shock back and forth to break the shaft off. Spent an hour trying remove passenger side only to bust top of bolt off. Spent less then 5mins removing drivers front by breaking it off. Shocks look nice and seem to ride better then stock. Time will tell if they hold up. 3 stars due to install issues with bracket and no instructions.
Good shocks for the price. Only problem was a rear upper bushing came apart.
Rode great, even with just the fronts installed. Then a month and a half after install, the bushings disintegrated on one while running an easy trail (stock Rubicon on 285/75R17s made it easy, stock 08ish Tacoma made it without much trouble also; Old Dale Rd in Joshua Tree National Park), allowing the stem top to fall out of the upper mount and drag behind the axle. It also would've been nice if the bushings came pressed in instead of requiring us to have/find/rig a press to install.
I gave them two stars because the ride was pretty good.
dont waste your money
Worst item I have purchased. Bought for my ‘13 JK and within three months two were squeaking, the other two were already leaking. Just gave up and ordered a different brand
I purchased these shocks may 2019 and had to replace them feb 2021 after the top brackets broke away with regular driving no off road worst shocks ever had
Not as good as oem
One of my brand new rear Nitro 8.0 replacement shocks leaked out all of its fluid within two weeks of installation. The original Nitro 8.0 shocks that I replaced were not even that old but the upper bushings were already mangled.
I'm switching to another brand.
