Reviews for Quadratec Maximum Duty Nitro 8.0 Shock Kit for 84-06 Jeep Cherokee XJ & Wrangler TJ
ride nice for the price
I have had the shocks on my 93 Jeep XJ with a 4.5 inch lift now for about 2 weeks, they handle great on city streets that are full of cracks & they also have smoothed out the bumps while I've been wheeling. Great price & couldn't be happier with the shocks.
Great Price for solid shocks. I bought both the Nitros and Hydros to try out after installing the 3.5" Quadratec Lift. I initially installed the Nitro's that I ordered with the lift kit and later switched to the Hydro's. As I expected, the Nitros gave me a much stiffer ride over the Hydro's which is great at lower speeds (off-road). On-road, especially at hwy speeds, the stiffness of the new lift kit and with the Nitro's challenged my stock steering system and physical coordination when the road was other than perfect. Since this is my daily driver, I kept the Hydro's on which makes my daily drive a little less tense when I hit the occasional pothole, buckle, or uneven lane change... In my opinion, both are great shocks and perform as I expected.
Created a smooth ride with my OME springs and 35s
Fit perfectly Jeep rides great!
Awesome shocks
I purchased these to replace my 13 year old/80K mile Trailmaster SSV's and they cured the loose feeling in my Jeep Unlimited TJ. I had already installed new tie rods and ball joints about a year ago and front stabilizer bushings about 6 months ago and recently started feeling the Jeep wandering and I was constantly correcting. I found that the bushings were essentially gone on the old SSV's and ordered some new bushings. The rear shocks were good and the new bushings tightened up the Jeep a bit, but when I pulled the front shocks, I noticed after a "hand test" that they were squeaking like the piston was on metal with no oil and felt a bit loose. So I decided to go ahead and replace all the shocks as the old ones didn't owe me anything. The Quadratec Nitro 8.0's (0-1.5 inch lift) were a good price and I don't have a lift on my LJ, so I ordered these. They work great and the loose feeling is gone. I like a tight feel to my suspension and these were perfect. If I had to describe the level of tightness, I would say medium. Obviously, I will have to rate the longevity later. I would advise anyone installing new shocks or bushings to order the proper grease. I can never find the special grease at any auto parts stores locally. I purchased "Energy Suspension 9.11104 8 Ounce TUB OF FORMULA 5 PRELUBE" for about $13. Sometimes, you get this grease in certain bushing packages, but the Quadratec shocks did not have any grease. The 8 oz tub will probably last you the life of your Jeep. Buy a box of rubber gloves and a roll of shop towels because this stuff sticks to everything, but it makes it easier to install the bushings and will limit squeaks after the install. Also, a note about the packaging...when you receive your shocks, the box will have images of both the Hydro 7.0 and on the opposite side, the Nitro 8.0...don't freak out as it seems they use the same box for both types of shocks. Just check to make sure your part numbers are correct. I did initially freak out! I will attempt to post images of the parts that came for both the front and rear shocks.
I stalled these on my 04 Rubicon. They drastically improved the loose steering and body roll. The ones I replaced were all shot. These are an adequate replacement at a reasonable price. You will have to insert the bushings and whatnot.
Awesome shocks! I replaced Zone shocks and these ride much better. I only wish they came with bushings and bar pins pre-installed.
These shocks are really good with a good price. I replaced my worn out Skyjacker shocks on my 98 TJ and the handling is great both on and off road. I even painted them to fit in with the Jeep.
