Not all items that are made in America are quality built… This is one of them. The door hinge is absolutely modeled after crap that we import from wherever. The door won’t seal shut… Door leans forward and shakes back and forth.

I just recently bought the box and I was pretty disgusted by the lack of quality in construction. First off the finish was already flaking off in a couple of places, the door doesn’t close flush and it will rattle as it doesn’t close up against the stops as the bracket that the lock/latch sticks out too far by about 3/16 and the door actually hits up against the bracket. Also the latch arm on the lock seems to have been pounded flat with a hammer so it would fit. Also the hinge is made from 2 separate pieces and then spot welded. All in all it seems to be typical China quality - low! If you by one of these be prepared to do some work even before you install it, if this is standard workmanship.

Guys, don’t waste your money. This is pure crap! Door rattles, & the paint flakes off when you look at it. If you buy it, get ready to be creative. Pitiful!

Quite a disappointment. I expected far better for such a non-complicated thing. The box is welded to the face, but isn't square. Because of this, it won't open/close without serious force, and was extremely hard to get in to the dash. Once in, the mounting holes didn't align to the brackets. Getting it back out was even harder than getting it in, and seems to have mangled my dash pad. I've contacted Smittybilt, and they asked for proof of purchase, pictures, and a detailed description. I sent everything by Tuesday, 8/13/19, and have not yet heard back by today - 8/16/19. I could have lived with it being tough to open/close. That would have worn in. I can't have a "vault" just hanging in my dash, unbolted. The factory box does the not-secure thing quite well.

I just received the glove box/security box today. It looks nothing like the product listed on this site or the picture on the box in which it came. While it may function, I am seriously considering returning it, because it is very shallow in addition to not being the product listed.
