Reviews for Rugged Ridge 11025.18 Rectangular Quick Release Mirror Kit in Textured Black for 97-18 Jeep Wrangler TJ & JK
I like the relocation bracket, but the bolt holding the mirror to the arm snapped in less than a week. I called Quadratec and they sent a replacement overnight.
The mirrors are fine and I agree with a number of other reviews that there is a good amount of whistling.
A decent option if you have the power mirrors and want to take your doors off.
I take my metal doors on and off so much that I removed the factory mirrors from the doors and I leave these replacement mirrors on year round. Only issues I have had with these mirrors are the whistling sound from the rubber holding in the glass. Once it was trimmed it stopped whistling. Also had to drill a drain hole at the bottom of the metal housing to keep trapped water from freezing in the winter time. My first set cracked because of this.
Pros:
Easy to install, the bracket the mirror goes into can be left on the jeep when you put the doors back on and they wont be in the way or look akward if left on. The mirrors look like a good adition to the jeep.
Cons: they do whistle (but it didnt bother me). And my mirrors held their angles pretty good up until you get a strong wind or get up around 60mph then they start closing on you.
The bolt that holds the mirror to the arm broke and I didn't over tighten it. It does move so it does need to be adjusted from time to time. It whistles in the wind as well. I put a cap on the mirror bolt and it helped eliminate the whistling. I can't understand why we can't find good quality mirrors for this application.
They do whistle and move around from the wind
While the mirrors are quite steady, as catalog states, the big issue is the arm holding the mirror has a tendency to collapse inward at highway speeds. Have tightened as much as possible and still issue. Have squeezed the mounting brackets and that seems to help.
Easy to install and remove when not in use. Vibrate a little while driving but the "whistle" while driving is much more annoying.
These mirrors are nice and seem to be pretty good quality. The only negative remark that I have is that unless you get them extremely tight they tend to swing in the wind at high speeds. This is annoying because it is hard to get them that tight with just your hands. Any speed over 65 and they start moving in on you.
Picture this...Doors and top are off the jeep and you go to take your Jeep for a nice peaceful ride when all of a sudden this whistle begins. Imagine your neighbors 3 year old that's grandparents gave them a whistle and they think it's the greatest thing ever...never stops, pierces the ears, and not even music can drown it out. That's what these mirrors will give you. And honestly I'd almost prefer the 3 year old with a whistle in a garage over these mirrors.
Now they do offer you good vision , although I think they could have reduced the length of the bar so that they would stay closer to the jeep. Installation was straight forward. The screw that is supposed to make them detachable doesn't "lock" them in place but keeps them sturdy enough.
I experienced the "whistling" issue mentioned by others. I was able to solve it by putting electrical tape around the seams/joints on the back of the mirror (blocking the inbound wind when driving forward), but it's silly that a $60-70 product sucks that much.
