Reviews for Quadratec LED Tail Light Kit for 97-06 Jeep Wrangler TJ
Just arrived so not reviewing quality. I am addressing fitment of these lights with tail light guards. I ordered a pair of Crown Automotive Euro Tail Light Guards for 81-06 Jeep (Titanium). They fit together very well. I will be mounting these and adding to this review soon. I just wanted to let folks know about how the two products fit together as some complained about these being bigger and not working with tail light guards.
Very happy with these new tail lights. Install was easy, not super easy since there was a little difficulty getting the wire harness out of the passenger side just due to where is was located on my '06 TJ. Everything aligns correctly and the lights are super bright!
I don't normally write reviews, but this is one of the rare exceptions. Short story: A+++ for quality, installation, brightness and functionality. Don't learn the hard way like I did, this is absolutely the ONLY way to go when converting to LED. Just make sure you hang on to your (6) OEM mounting nuts & bolts or upgrade to some nice stainless 1/4 x 20 x 1" nuts, bolts and washers.
Slightly extended story: I thought I had saved about $50 by buying a cheaper set that did not come with pre-wired plugs. No problem, I'm pretty mean with a soldering iron. The quality seemed fine, but the bare harness had 4 wires instead of 3. No matter how I tried to hook up the 4th wire (running lights) they just never worked right. To make matters worse, if I turned my headlights on, I lost my 2 tail brake lights leaving me with only a 3rd brake light functioning. So after wanting to rip my hair out for a few weeks of stubbornly trying to force my poor decision into working, watching countless videos on how EASY it was to install LEDs, I kept seeing the video on the Quadratec install. Finally, I admitted defeat and ordered a set. This morning, I installed them in less than 20 minutes and they were literally PLUG AND PLAY.
Moral of the story: It's not like these are really all that expensive. Don't try and save money when doing LED tail lights, just get these and save yourself hours and hours of frustration.
really nice lights very bright.
I am very happy with the Quadratec tail lights. There was an issue with the flasher that came with the order in that it would not always flash at the same frequency. It would slow down for a flash or two every so often when the turn signal was on. I contacted Customer Service and they told me there was an issue with that flasher and are sending me a different one that they said is more reliable at no charge and via next day air delivery. Not only am I happy with the tail lights, I am also very happy with the outstanding Customer Service and Quadratec's commitment to stand behind their product!
Product was exactly as promised. Real upgrade from the traditional incandescent. Very bright and clear. Would highly recommend. Great value for dollar here. Not sure the previous reviewers issue with wiring slack. Just remove the inner plate during install and wire length is no issue. Only an “issue” at all on drivers side.
Took 1 hour to install only because you have to struggle passing the wire connector on the passenger side in the wheel well. I have a phot of OEM on drivers side and LED on passenger side. BIG difference in brightness.
Great lights! One note, these will not power up until they are properly grounded via the three bolts -- took me a bit to realize this. Very bright and clean light. Installation was rather straightforward. Install new relay module, pop old assemblies off, put new ones on, test, done. Very nice update to anyone withg the old incandescent bulbs that came stock. The new assembly looks very similar to the stock one, so if you dig that look, you are going to be very pleased. You will need a 3/8" socket, a philips screwdriver, and about 30m of time to install this.
Wanted LED tail lights for safety reasons (other drivers) ... these lights are very bright. The reverse lights are super bright too. And the left lens does light up the OE rear license plate when lights are on.
These do not feel as sturdy as the originals - but perhaps they don't need to be. And I could not use my light guards with these - these new lights are just too deep.
Installation was a breeze and the relay was easy to replace as well. Overall very happy with these lights.
Just installed these on my 04 Wrangler TJ Sport. Love the way they look and act! Really updates my TJ. Couldn’t be happier.
Just a couple of helpful notes:
1. These will not power up at all until they are grounded to the Jeep via the three bolts.
2. Keep pulling (not too much though) and digging for the connector on the passenger side. It IS in there BUT it gets stuck in between the body of the Jeep. I had to go up underneath and nudge it along with a long screw driver. This process alone doubled my installation time, but all worth it in the end.
3. Be sure to lubricate the three bolts and holes before installing your new lights. You are going to want/need to tighten them down by hand as much as possible. Especially on the driver’s side. You’ll see why when you do it. Don’t delay...get these and enjoy!
