Reviews for Bestop Supertop NX Twill Soft Top for 07-18 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited JK 4 Door
The pro’s: Top was pretty easy to install. I consider myself to be somewhat mechanical, while my wife is not very. Together we installed the top in four and a half hours. This includes drilling out a broken screw and going to the local hardware store to buy a bigger screw for a stripped hole. I don’t recommend the use of a power tool to install.
The top is very easy to operate with the windows out, we enjoy it very much in the fully retracted position. Fabric seems to be top quality as well as overall construction.
The cons: Screws are easy to break. I recommend hand tools for a better feel. Windows are a pain to install. Rear zipper is hard to get started and side windows are difficult to snap into door surrounds. The most irritating thing to me is the “Sunrider” position. It’s great for the front passengers, but fabric hangs down on the heads of rear passengers in our JKU. Passengers are constantly pushing fabric off of their heads and without passengers renders your rear view mirror useless.
Very happy for the most part thus the four star rating.
i had the same problem with the self tapping screws. I had one break when halfway in, before it even was seated. This was when installing the straps in the back. Maybe they did not drill that hole large enough? Other than that, this top looks and fits great. it would have gotten a five if not for the broken off screw in the tubing. (took extra time to fix) The top is very quiet and the flipback feature is really nice. tips - read the directions and watch the video, they will help things go smoothly. Also , make sure you leave the top in the sun for easier install. The top is vey tight. The two silver bows are not needed as stated in the video. Overall great top.
Good quality material. Took about 3 hours to install. Typicall selftaper screws. Broke while installing using a screw gun.
I bought this product in June of 2019. I am having trouble trying to get the side windows correctly. the zipper on the roof and the zipper on the window don't align to allow the me to seat the front part of the window where it goes into the slot on the door. if i put the front part into the slot provided prior to zipping the window in, the top part of the zipper on the roof and the zipper on the window are 3/4" -1" apart. Therefore the top front corners are fapping in the wind on both sides.
Is it a defect or did I do something wrong in my install?
One would think if you spend this much on a top, you would get a high-quality product - and it has nothing to do with the thickness of the fabric top. I bought this to replace a factory soft-top which after 7 years got tired. I switch between my hard top and the soft top during the year when it gets cold, so we shall see if this new one holds up. This is for a 4-door 2015 JK.
Step1 should be - go directly to hardware store and get screws that won't strip out when you are trying to screw a fabric top to metal bars (yes, 9 screws hold this top to the metal frame). Also, one would think that the threaded insert on the door rail shouldn't come out when you put in the screws but this one did. It was a good thing I was able to salvage the insert from my old door rail and re-drilled the new to fit it in there. There really is no need for a white BESTOP logo on the back of it either - and finally, you would think that someone would have figured out that rear windows will not stay tucked in the rear doors by just a bent piece of plastic and friction. The factory top did this and I was hoping that this one would be different - I guess I'll use the tried and true Velcro to hold those in place so they don't blow out.
Comparing the factory soft top and this one - If I had a choice, I would have just bought another factory one. It seemed like the frame was better quality and you didn't screw the fabric to metal bars to hold it in place. Chalk it up to an expensive lesson learned.
