Reviews for Bestop Supertop NX Twill Soft Top for 07-18 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited JK 4 Door
This is a very good product and not difficult to do on your own. I was replacing the factory soft top on a 2014 JKU because the windows weren’t zipping anymore and it was very worn (Florida). A few suggestions building on others’ comments. First, if you’re removing your old soft top, allow another 45 min or hour for that. There are a couple helpful vids on this, including from our friends here at Q: https://youtu.be/qlv6RVWlZRM
For the actual install, this video was helpful: https://youtu.be/A867SmzXtPc
I watched the videos before I began and didn’t need to refer back during the install as the written instructions are pretty good and the visual helped with big picture.
Regarding the comments of breaking the self-tapping screws, based on the comments I used WD40 on the screws and holes and had no problems once I did that. Highly recommend that.
The most tedious part is screwing the new top to the support bars. I agree it’s best to do it with the top on as opposed to trying to assemble it all in the ground first.
Only needed one occasional helper to lift and position the top to the Jeep. Otherwise, it was not too tough at all just tedious with screwing the material to the bars.
I did struggle to get it latched the first time even in the Florida sun. But a little wrangling got it done and it looks great and seems superior to the factory.
Only real complaints: (1) zipper still a little tough to zip. We can put rovers with drones on Mars but can’t solve zippers on the best vehicle ever made (2) don’t care for the BestTop promo on the back. The product is good enough that’s people will ask without having to splash American Eagle across the front of the sweatshirt.
Otherwise, killer product and super helpful comments below and guidance from the Q as always. Thank you!
Very nice top. I bought it to replace my factory soft top on my 2012 JKU, which had worn. Installation was a lot of work, but watching videos first helped, as did having the factory top and knowing how a soft top works. It generally went OK. I had the same problems others had. I broke a screw attaching the strap to the bow. I had to drill it out, then tried another and broke a second. Off to the hardware store. I hand tightened all the screws up to that point to avoid this, but I could not get those to screw in by hand and resorted to the power driver - the holes are just a little too small in the bow. Then I did what someone else mentioned, I installed bow #3 upside down. Of course that's what the straps attach to - had to unscrew all 10 of those screws, including the one that broke before, turn, and re-attach. And the last 5 screws on the front bow was a real bear to reach. I installed it a day before tropical storm Isaias came through with 8 inches of rain. Got a bunch of water in on the passenger side. The driver's side was fine. The factory top never leaked. I took a look and the door surround was filled with water - it looks like the fabric was shifted on the passenger side. I stretched it over to even it out and didn't get any leaks the next rain. Fingers crossed. All in all, a nice looking top, though I could do without the yellow Bestop emblem on the rear window… I paid enough for this, I don't need to advertise for them too.
i'm glad I spent the extra money! It's thick, great quality. Husband walked out looked at it and said "well you did good" Me and my son removed the hardtop and installed this one. Instructions seemed a little flipped or not super clear but we made it through. Had to redo one area due to having the top bar piece flipped backwards .
I don't notice a difference in road noise with this top vs the hardtop. After having read many reviews and many specs on different websites and different tops. I am very satisfied with this purchase. My first big upgrade on Janis Jeeplin. ;)
Just wanted to correct a mis-impression in the review by "Jim R" who said "The most irritating thing to me is the “Sunrider” position. It’s great for the front passengers, but fabric hangs down on the heads of rear passengers in our JKU." Not true, you just have to pull back (toward the rear) the folding fabric as you are putting down the top and it'll fix this issue. I just had the same problem yesterday and realized I forgot to do this. The first 30 seconds or so of this video shows how it's done. Hope this is helpful. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cVTICvxV06s
Very pleased with this top. Replaced an OEM with the Supertop NX and can note the improvement in quality, durability, and "drive sound." Directions are pretty good but the video helps further. Go slowly and should be no issue. It will stretch minimally once put on as it was tight but then with some re positioning, it is perfect. Really pleased!
Let me start with I am mechanically inclined and have worked on cars all my life. Like most reviewers say this top is tight and will take time and warmer temperatures to get it to fit. The side curtains will be the worst. Make sure you are wrapping them around the door post the right way. They don’t just lay there, they tuck in to the post. There are videos out there showing the right way to do it. Also I saw reviewers say the screws broke on them so I was extra careful, and I still broke one. I drilled a new hole and got a screw out of my stock. The bow tubes are easier to thread the screws in and I wouldn’t use a drill for fear you may strip the tube if your clutch isn’t set right on your drill. But the brace that the Stay Straps screw to is thicker and I needed to drill one size bigger after breaking screw. The Windshield Header Latches are not like a TJ’s, they don’t get longer the farther you open them. I had a horrible time latching them. Yes none of the back stuff was on to keep it from going forward. I thought for sure this would always be a problem. But after a couple days we folded the top again with no problem reattaching latches and never had to remove anything from the back of the Jeep. We have folded back the top without removing side curtains or rear window. Our TJ has always had to attach the latches but not lock before you put all the back stuff on. Hope this is helpful it’s a great top. I have ordered numerous things from Quadratec. They have always been a pleasure to do business with and fixed any problem I had with something I bought from them.
The top is great the fabric has some weight to it. Feels very well made. The install alone took about 5 hours. The only issue i experienced was the small black self tapping screws break off very easy when using a screw gun. I ended up install all by hand after the problem. The top is very tight. Only install on a warm day. The top is tight as a drum when first installed. You can’t go wrong with this top. Have someone assist with the install and you can probably get it done in about 2 hours.
This top has been fantastic and a huge step up from the factory top. I utilize my soft top extensively and flip the top back and forth a few hundred times a year. After three years, this top still works and looks great!
The best soft top I have ever owned. Worth every penny. Material is awesome and super-black. Easier to take up and down and get those rails placed because it is stretchier. Looks amazing. Love the warranty. No air or water leaks. No need for a hard top in the winter.
I wasn't expecting this amazing results with this top. Is incredible how quiet it is on the highway how beautiful it look how easy is open and close the sunrider. I'm so happy and yes i recommend this top to anyone. Thank you Bestop.
