Reviews for Mountain Off-Road Hide-A-Step for 07-18 Jeep Wrangler JK
It's a nice step. Not great but nice. It's about a $60 step. I would recommend it if they have a 50% off sale or buy one get one. Also you're going to want to file the edges down. They are just a bit too sharp on the step edge.
Only reason for four stars is the price. It’s a little high but the step is very well built. Installs perfectly if you have mopar o.e. Rock rails using existing hardware. Installed on a ‘18 JK 2 door. Only hardware I used from the kit were the removable pins. Took other reviewers advice and used zip ties to hold the spring plate during mounting. Then used pry bar to hold the spring plate in position and cut zip ties then inserted the pins. Works great! The black finish appears durable. Ordered one for the passenger side too. Jeep on!
Great idea for a step. Easy to follow instructions. There are two sets of instructions in this kit, one for jeep factory Rubicon side rails and one without. The silver model step is cheaper in price and is very poorly finished, chrome plating flaking off in the bag from the manufacturer.
**IMPORTANT** Installation tip for you do it yourselfer's. As stated in the instruction manual the step mount needs to be compressed before installing the bolt to secure it to the frame. Helpful tip: Use two tie wraps, insert into each set of holes in the mount hinge assembly. Then take the mount assembly that is compressed about half way and secure the step mount onto the jeep frame. Following this helpful tip you will not have to fight a spring loaded mount upon the assembly of it to the frame saving your fingers from being pinched or worse.
Great step for my Rubicon. Part bolts onto frame using holes already there, no drilling. When it's time to do some hoodappin' just pull the pins and remove step, the mounting bracket is up and out of the way. Only negative is pulling and replacing the pins can be a knuckle buster.
Nice idea. More difficult of an install that took longer than expected. Provides a help with step up but not as much as was expected. No clearance issues but they accommodate anyway with quick release pins
Very handy and unobtrusive step
Got this for my wife to make it easier for her to climb in. Works well. Slippery when wet. Removing for Offroad is fairly easy. Only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because when you remove step, the base comes in contact with the frame and rubs when you hit a bump or when the frame flexes at all. Sounded like a bushing on my shock fell off. I use a stick to hold it off the frame during Off-roading. Otherwise it works as advertised. 2015 Rubicon
A little hard to get used to but once you do you'll miss not having it. Had to remove when I added my poison spyder rock rails.
While this product is unique in that you have a step to get into your Jeep, it doers not hang down and take clearance and does not involve the complexity of an electric step, I cant quite give it 5 stars for a 3 reasons: 1. Price: At $136 I assumed I was getting a pair, but the price is $136 for one. This is a $79-$89 product at best and I am sure they would fly off the shelf if properly priced. 2. Corrosion: Curious to see how the step looks after a winter of salt. Remains to be seen if "class IV zinc coating holds up, including the spring. 3. Location: makes use of the Rubicon rock slider mount, but ideally you would mount this step further forward on the Jeep for most comfortable entry and exit. With all that would still buy again as there is nothing like it in the marketplace, but would be great to see price point and mounting location improved by Mountain Off-Road in the future. Stainless option would be great too (and would justify $136 price each assuming good version of stainless), but let's see if zinc holds up after a winter of salt and if it does, maybe stainless is not necessary.
This step only drops down about 6" and is not much help for a disabled person to get in a lifted Jeep.
