Reviews for Quadratec Lightweight Aluminum Cargo Rack with Jumbo Rainproof Cargo Storage Bag for 2" Receiver Hitch
I ordered the rack and delivery was quick. I would have preferred it in black but color was not an option. Once the cargo bag was in place it looked okay. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because the rack itself was rattling after it was installed in the 2” stock receiver. We followed the instructions but the rattling was still a concern. I suppose it wouldn’t have mattered once it has a full and balanced load but I don’t think it should be rattling to begin with. We addressed this by purchasing a hitch tightener on another site. It would have been nice if the item came with the order.
If I had stock tires, the rear door on my 2012 JK 2 door would have cleared the rack. This is not a big deal since it will have cargo on it during use. I did order a hitch reciever adapter that will allow for 2 recievers options with one being lower and use for another accessory. The lower option will allow the door to clear the cargo rack
The product itself is well made, but it does not let my door open with stock spare tire. I have an 87 YJ. The bumper is a low profile, pro comp. I ordered primarily for the ability to open the tailgate.
Works great but as stated can’t open tailgate even with bare rack and no luggage. Would like to have hitch redesigned to with bend in hitch to be 2” lower and would be perfect for JL. I bought lowered adapter and drilled new pin holes and works fine
This product would have recieved 5 stars but it isn't all constructed out of aluminum. The description should say that the receiver is made of steel.
I'm pretty disappointed with both the rack adn with the bag. I'm on the edge of giving only 2 stars. Here is why. I have a 2019 2-Dr JL with stock street tires (no oversized tires- tires just under 32: diameter) so I thought my tire would clear the rack once installed. But it falls about a half inch short of that. I measured and I only have 4 ioches from bottom of the tire to top of the bar when installed. Don't know if my hitch is riding high, the wheel low or what. But I also just installed the Quadratec 2" premium receiver which I also just bought here. And there is little play in that to move up or down. The other issue is that my bag only has the zipper on two sides. The quadratec video says explicitly that the bag is zippered on 3 sides. Don't know if my bag is just defective or if the video is wrong. He never opens it all the way in the video so I can't confirm the accuracy of his statement. I just know my zipper stops at right corner and that seems odd. Looks like a defective bit of construction to me. And that flap although good for water proofing is a pain. Of course it might be better in warmer weather. It is cool today (46 degf). I would add pictures if there was a way here. I'm considering sending it back.
Need to update the description as this will not allow the tailgate to open with any but the smallest "factory" tires. I have a '20 Willys edition with factory 32" and it will not clear. Rubicon would also be a no-go. I wish I had measured rather than trusting the claim in the video that it opens with "factory" spare tires. With that said, the rack build quality and packaging exceeded my expectations.
The straps for the bag are cut too short on the end that attaches to the rack. They need to leave ~ another 2” of length on the “short ends“ so you can get the center straps looped around where the rack is attached to the mount arm.
The rear door of my JLU Sahara will not clear the rack when empty with the 18” wheels/tires. Might do it with the base 17” ones.
I specifically purchased this rack because Quadratec CLAIMS it was designed and made for the "unique challenges" (according to Rob's video) of accommodating the spare tire and tailgate on the back of a Wrangler. I have a Mopar 2" receiver installed in the factory location on my 2019 JL Sport. It DOES NOT have oversized wheels or tires but instead the small sized, plain old 17" factory steel wheels fitted with the factory all-season Michelin 245/75R17 street tires. All components are factory, factory, factory. None of it is oversized. None of it has been altered in any way.
SPARE STILL HITS BASKET when opening tailgate. A 2-door Wrangler isn't much good without a tailgate that opens. Waste of money. I would have given it more than one star if it was an otherwise nice rack, but it's not. Especially atrocious were the two ugly plastic reflectors slapped on the back. Bot of them were crooked and embarrassing-looking. Despite having unused mounting holes for screws, the reflectors were were only slapped on with cheap double-sided tape so they were easy for me to remove with a heat gun. Interesting to note that significant areas of the adhesive when removed were not even fully pressed up against the basket. The actual areas of contact were quite tiny. I guess the installer couldn't have even been bothered to press the things down once he put them on crooked. Do they really expect me to trust the welds on the thing when they can't even use double-sided tape correctly?
