Reviews for Rough Country Cold Air Intake System for 91-01 Jeep Cherokee XJ with 4.0L Engine
Fit perfect on my 98 XJ, love the sound she makes when I lean into the gas. Noticable bump on power and fuel mileage.
Yes along with the other reviewers this is not an exact fitting aftermarket piece. With a little negotiating and drilling your own holes it goes in fine. Doe what it says it will do and sounds great! Can’t beat it for the price, over $300 for the K&N and does the same thing. If you own a XJ then you already know how to turn a wrench and modify stuff! 2000 XJ Cherokee Classic owner.
Didn't exactly fit in my 92 xj
As expected, you get what you pay for. When it’s all done, it’s fine and it fits. Getting there is the hard part: It required lots of bending to bolt in all 3 spots instead of only one because it simply doesn’t line up at all. The filter clamp arrived broken and had to be replaced at Home Depot. The rest of the clamps are a better, quality design, so why not include a decent clamp for the largest one? To reference another review, I don’t hear the intake (this is fine) and the power increase is probably your butt dyno or in your head (as expected, so it’s also fine). If you have the patience and a replacement clamp, I’d recommend this for the value price.
Not part of the product rating but Quadratec said it wouldn’t ship for a couple weeks so it would come directly from Rough Country, but it actually arrived less than 2 days after I ordered, before the rest of my order! Kudos for that.
So it seems like a nice thing, but really it isn't. Clamps are too large, had to add spacers behind the head of the bolt so it would clamp hard enough. Had to negotiate the box into place with some bends and a new hole to be drilled because it just did not want to line up at all. The way the air filter sits in the box seems loose and will probably wiggle off, wish there was a better way to make it fit. I have a 1997 Cherokee what's never been wrecked so it's not like things are out of place.
