Reviews for B&M Racing 46200 Shifter Stick for 05-18 Jeep Wrangler TJ, JK with 6 Speed Manual Transmission
This shifter wasn’t even on my radar. It came up on the “other customers bought” this. 1st my 2010 wrangler console didn’t come off like the newer model in the video. I took it partially off and that was enough. When the package arrived I had the shifter on in about 5 minutes since I disassembled it earlier in the day. This is the best $200 I’ve spent on my Jeep. It now shifts very precisely much like the 2002 Carrera I owned. Awesome upgrade. Highly recommend the B&M shifter kit.
Brilliant piece of engineering! Who would think such a simple thing could be a vast improvement. (Especially if you previously installed one of those lower dash switch pods against applicaton.) (Now has plenty of clearance.) Get one of these today!
Make sure to loctite if you get this. Instructions don’t mention.
I thought spending almost $200 on a shift handle for my manual transmission was a bad decision on my part. After installing it, I would have never thought that changing out this part would make that much of a difference. I also have the B&M shifter and both of these together has finally made the shifting experience feel like it is suppose to. I do not regret this purchase at all and I should have done it sooner, excellent work B&M!!!!
This has a nice feel, and I like the ergonomics - especially when adding it to the B&M 45195 Precision Sport Speed Shifter.
Tip for removing the stock shifter stick - remove the set screw and give a squirt of liquid wrench and let sit overnight. Then latch a pair of vice grips and a couple of whacks with a hammer and it slid right off.
I withheld a star due to the poor shipping time from Holly and the lack of communication from Quadratec on the delays in shipping. It took almost an entire month to get it. I'm not sure where the breakdown happened between Quadratec and Holley - but they were like a married couple who were in a days-long fight and not speaking to each other. I finally just called Holley myself and got it shipped that day. The fellow at Holley didn't know what happened either - said they'd been in stock the whole time - so it wasn't a backorder deal.
It's alot better then spending 500 for the only other short throw for jks. So stupid if you ask me.
Order # R7782533 date 11/03/2020. Installed shifter and handle with new boot. Performance was amazing, crisper sure shifts. Today is labor day. Shifter into reverse and allen set screws snapped. This is my daily driver and I do not shift hard. Quadratec closed on this date and need to be safe driving, so ordered another stick shift. Will try to see if this is under warranty.
Installed this product ~6 months ago in my RHD JK (2012), and it has been awesome, I consider it a must-have upgrade for all manual JKs. The shifter feel is much more direct and precise, especially when going into reverse, owing to the removal of the huge factory rubber dampener/isolator. Cabin gearbox noise is a tiny but higher but essentially no different to stock. This shifter stick also allows a an aftermarket shift knob to be screwed on directly, which is a massive improvement over the stock plastic shift knob. Note that an adapter shim/thread is required for Sickspeed knobs owing to the different thread diameter and spacing, but I believe the knobs available from Quadratec will screw right on.
I was also considering ordering the upgraded B&M racing shifter in addition to just the shifter stick, but just the shifter arm improved the feel so much with just the stock shifter that I haven't felt the need. If you're considering buying both, maybe order this first and then decide if you want to do the full upgrade after.
The only downsides to this product, and the reason for 4 stars instead of 5, are due to the provided shift knob and install instructions.
The shift knob that this arm comes with is a bit small, and is coated in a rubbery plastic that I struggled to find comfortable. Luckily I already had a cueball shift knob ready to go, so this wasn't really an issue for me, but if you're just buying this by itself, I recommend picking up a cueball shift knob to go with it.
As for the install instructions, the provided install video was mostly very good, but glossed over two critical stages: Removal of the factory knob (it doesn't just lift off easily), removal of the factory shifter stick (it's even harder to remove), and installing the shifter stick at the correct angle. For anyone installing this, here are my suggestions:
To remove the factory shift knob, don't bother removing the plastic shim like they do in the install video - it doesn't do anything. Instead, twist the knob back and forth (clockwise then counterclockwise) firmly but very quickly, while pulling. It should pop right off - no huge amounts of force required.
To remove the factory shift stick, undo the main bolt and then torque/twist the entire stick. Spray some WD40 or lubricant around the edges of the hole, so that it gets in between the shifter stick dampener and the shifter link arm itself (avoid spraying into the thread). Keep twisting the shifter stick left and right until the lubricant works its way around and eventually frees the shifter stick.
When installing the new shifter stick, it doesn't have to just sit at a right angle to the flat edge on the shifter link arm (and probably shouldn't). The grub screws have plastic tips such that they can be fastened to the shifter link arm at a range of angles. Install the shifter arm at the desired angle with just the main bolt, test it to make sure it's comfortable and won't strike the t-case knob, and then tighten up the grub screws when you're 100% happy with the position.
Hope this helps - this things really is a must have.
Great shifter till the small shouldered set screws broke, could only get 1 broken piece out! Replace the side I could get out with a small stainless allen head . 2 years later so far so good ! Maybe need to replace them on install !
Got this shifter for my 2017 JK and I liked it. After a little over a year the shifter started spinning so I took the boot off and the through bolt was broken. The stem was just spinning in the housing. I called B&M and they told me there was no replacement part because it was part of the housing and it’s only a one year warranty. Basically told me I’m burnt. Stay away from b&m. They don’t stand behind their junk products.
