Reviews for B&M Racing 46200 Shifter Stick for 05-18 Jeep Wrangler TJ, JK with 6 Speed Manual Transmission
I purchased this to replace the stock stick on my 07 Wrangle and what a difference. Very positive feel and way shorter throw. Will be ordering the sport shifter soon.
Highly recommend this product.
I love this. The mechanical actions we do to control our vehicles are so satisfying. Why ignore something you touch countless times a drive? The ball knob feels great and is perfectly weighted. Always smooth and slightly cool to the touch. The removal of the rubber bushing and having a straight mount makes every shift have a firearm like mechanical action. The factory stick feels like driving a Fisher-Price manual in comparison.
Stronger
I was skeptical of the reviews, I didn't believe it would make a big difference but it does. The driving experience is vastly improved over the stop shifter. The install is easy if you read the instructions. I purchased an aftermarket shift knob with the shift pattern for when my wife drives my Jeep.
Good reviews
I installed the shifter stick and transfer case shifter on my 2013 Wrangler JK two door. I have only them on for two hours and with one drive across town I can say the drivability improvement is substantial. It's the best upgrade I have done on my Jeep and I wish I had done it sooner!!! Very high quality product.
Installation took about 90 minutes - I used a big crow bar and a block of wood to pop off the old knobs. Here's a timesaving tip - Remove the leather boot from the consoles after you remove it from the Jeep, then re-install it last. The instructions for the transfer case offer this guidance but the instructions for the shifter do not.
Could not be happier with this purchase!!!!!!
I've read that the stock shifter has a rubber bushing that rounds out and makes shifting sloppier. Looking at the bottom of the stock shifter, that certainly makes sense (attached photo) I bought this alongside the Precision sport 6-speed shifter (Quadratec Part #: 52159.0011) and it is fantastic! For those who would only replace the stick, after looking at the stock stick, I can certainly understand how this would make a tremendous difference.
Arrived and installed this morning. It was super easy to install, one you get the stock shifter knob off. I fought with mine for awhile, until I finally decided to cut off the original knob with a Dremel. Feels great, and the shifter doesn’t bounce around like the stock one did.
Jeep stopped jumping out of 3rd gear when hitting bumps
I read some of the other reviews and thought to myself “There’s NO way just swapping out the shifter stick will make that much of a difference”. But thankfully, I was wrong. The change in shifting feel and precision is absolutely amazing.
It is truly a night and day difference; I can’t believe I’m driving the same truck.
Here are the bullet points:
• Removing the factory shift knobs (the part I was most dreading) wasn’t nearly the chore that the internet made it out to be. I lowered my top, straddled the transmission tunnel and gave a strong pull and twist. Came off with little problem.
• Getting the factory shifter stick off the shifter (the part I was dreading second most) wasn’t a problem either. Just remove the bolt and forcefully work the stick off.
Everything else about the installation was cake. I used a little thread locker on the bolt and set screws and then buttoned it right up. The real hardest part was sliding my center console back into place.
PROS:
Much, and I mean MUCH improved shifter feel. You really won’t believe it.
The ability to use any threaded aftermarket shift knob (the stock knob always felt uncomfortable to my hand) I read a review saying that the knob that comes with it is too rubbery, I even bought a Speed Dawgs cue ball shift knob to get around this. But they must have changed it because this one feels fine, even if it is a little on the small side. I’m not sure which one I’m going to stick with so I posted both photos.
The bend of the stick makes the shifting motion much easier. The old stick seemed to bend down towards the cup holders.
CONS:
Nothing really. Seriously, there is literally no downside. Is there a tiny bit more gear noise in the cabin? Maybe. But it’s not even a consideration.
In conclusion; this is a cheap and easy mod that pays tremendous dividends. If you have some extra money laying around, there is no reason not to get this.
