Thanks to the folks over at Autoblog.com, we now have some new - and more detailed - 2018 Wrangler spy photos to absorb.
And, like the last set released a few weeks ago, these shots certainly confirm. Wait for it. That the 2018 model will still look like a Wrangler.
For some, that is a 'duh'. But for many others, there was a definite worry about what Fiat Chrysler was going to do with the redesign.
So this should hopefully put to rest the notion FCA was going all Dr. Frankenstein on the new JL in favor of some Renegade-type mall-crawler design.
Sure, they fooled with the windshield and made it non-folding, as well as incorporating some aluminum material into the body to achieve better fuel economy.
But the body-on-frame, solid axle design that has made Wrangler and all its predecessors so popular, is returning.
So will the iconic seven-slot front end, JK holdover mirrors and taillights, rear mounted spare tire, and removable doors - judging by the hinge appearance.
FCA has already announced the 3.6-liter Pentastar engine will come standard in the JL, and buyers will also have the option of a 2.0-liter, 300 horsepower Hurricane engine.
Down the road, FCA plans to make its 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 available on the JL as well as some type of hybrid.
The JL is expected to arrive to dealerships sometime next summer, and will still be assembled at the brand's long time plant in Toledo, Ohio.
