Borgeson 000920 Heavy Duty Replacement Steering Shaft for 76-86 Jeep CJ with Power Steering & Vibration Damper Upgrade
When you are adding a lift kit on your Jeep CJ, as well as larger wheels and tires, one thing many overlook is the vehicle's steering shaft. It is all well and good to add all the products to get the vehicle up in the air and provide clearance when off-roading, but a Jeeps factory steering shaft just wasn't designed to handle the long term stress of all those larger components. Borgeson's Heavy Duty Replacement Steering Shafts are a perfect way to eliminate that issue. These steering assemblies utilize a telescoping shaft with two precision needle bearing u-joints to handle stress and provide a more responsive steering experience. Borgeson's shafts are also simple to install with simple hand tools so you won't be out of action for long. This replacement heavy-duty steering shaft is designed for CJ vehicles with power steering and contains a vibration damper upgrade to reduce road vibration.
Precision Fitment: This Borgeson Replacement Steering Shaft is specially designed to replace the factory shaft on vehicles which have been lifted, along with fitment of larger tires and wheels.
Ultra Responsive: Thanks to a heavy-duty telescoping assembly with two precision needle bearing u-joints, these steering shafts provide superior handling and excellent steering response over the factory steering shaft.
Easy Riding and Installation: Shaft includes a vibration dampener - similar to those on YJ vehicles - to dampen road shock and make for a better ride. Also installs easily with simple hand tools.

Borgeson Heavy Duty Replacement Steering Shaft Reviews
Just as advertised. Easy fit.
the last one I could not muscle in place - this fit PERFECTLY - just wire brush existing rusted/warn plines with wire brush and small file - saved lots of pain and suffering
I used the factory flats and just turned my steering wheel to align the screws with the flats, then adjusted my steering wheel with the drag link.
Before I had wandering, bump steer, and unpredictable steering. As well as when turning I had to bounce the steering wheel into the turn to control it. Also when going down the road my steering would “lean” to the left and then to the right off and on. I replaced the lower column bearing at the same time and was a night and day difference. It feels completely under control and sporty and fun as opposed to previous scary and unpredictable. My steering box is shot so it’s not 100% great but it went from a 2 to 9 in handling rating. I fitted it first and uninstalled and painted. I don’t know that I notice any vibration dampening but glad I bought it, it does seem a bit smoother but I’m not sure it was contributed from the vibration dampening upgrade. I think my old bearing was worn enough to cause some vibration and a new one mediated that.
On removal of old: remove lower clamp bolt completely. I don’t think the column sliding back is necessary. I loosened mine but didn’t pull it backwards and still did just fine.
