Crown Automotive Windshield Wiper Motor Switch Reviews
I read the previous review and was on the watchout of the switch being loose. It arrived very quickly, I inspected it very closely and determined the soft metal tangs [3] that held the switch together were just tight enough to loosely hold the switch together. I tightened the tangs for a better fit. I installed the switch in the dash and gently connected the wiring, good so far. When I went to place the knob on the shaft the entire shaft punched out the plastic part of the switch from the metal housing, breaking some of the plastic siding. I removed the switch and reassembled [watch out the lower part has side spring loaded ball bearings for the position detents] Since it was broke I really tightened down on the tangs. I again installed the switch in the dash, only this time I applied pressure to hold the back of the switch to hold in place while installing the knob. It tested fine. I had to remove my ash tray to gain access to the ground stud, that was the only obstacle I had to remove. This was on a 1985 Renegade. What should have taken maybe 30 minutes, turn into all afternoon.
I have not had any luck with these switches at all. The first one came apart and Quadratec replaced it. I installed the second one and it came apart when I changed out my interment control. This has really put a bad taste in my mouth for Crown. Fortunately, I have options which I am pursuing.
I plugged the switch in to test it. Wipers worked. I went to unplug it and it just broke in two. The metal taps do not hold the switch together. Better it broke now than having it fully installed. My jeep has A/C so that has to be removed to get to the switch.
