Tuffy Secure Glove Box Safe in Black Reviews
A quality piece that's made in the USA. I had a professional stereo installer install this box in place of the woefully inadequate glovebox that comes in YJs while I was already upgrading my stereo. It's a huge step up. The only thing I wish is that Tuffy would have done a better job with the flap that sticks out on the left side in order to blend in with the existing gauge cluster to the left of the glovebox. It dosesn't quite line up. If you look closely in the picture from a previous reviewer here you see it, and it looks exactly the same in my YJ. I understand Jeeps aren't perfect but this is twice the price of the other cheaper security glovebox commonly sold online and I would expect things to line up perfectly for the extra price. Still, the locking mechanism is great and the overall build quality feels really solid. It bolts in really solidly and I think the idiot bar is more like the old CJs. I wouldn't hesitate to buy again. One other thing I wish I could see is this thing sold in spice and other colors to better blend in with existing interiors. It would be much easier to hide from the wife that way.
Glove box came with complete instructions and parts. Best to drill out side mounting holes by 1/16th inch to allow for easier positioning and to install mounting screws. Need the extra 1/16th inch wiggle room for alignment of the screws.
The inside of the glove box could have been easily increased to double the size of the interior. The original glove boxes on the 87 - 89 Wranglers had the glove box on the bottom and a open shelf above the panic bar and glove compartment. When installing the new glove compartment I noticed that there was sufficient space in the dash to allow a much larger glove compartment.
It fit so good I almost gave up on the install, not believing it would fit. Then when it snapped into place it was a perfect very snug install which is great. I did have to use a large C clamp to lineup bolt holes, but once lined up it was perfect.
One down side is lock is so large box won't hold water bottle. But wallet and cell phones, keys fit ok.
