Rough Country Rear Trail Bumper with Tire Carrier Reviews
The quality of the bumper is good....heavy Guage steel....the corner was damaged in shipping but touched up fine.....directions were bad....bad pictures and the instructions were wrong about bolts being used..... it said to use 12x70 mm bolts for the spare tire spindle but after I installed them. And put the bumper on and got the carrier mounted I found out the bolts for the tire mounts were too short....the instructions had the sizes backwards! So I had to almost completely remove the bumper with the carrier now mounted to it off and out the bolts for the shorter ones..... the kit was also missing one of the washers for bearing in the carrier luckily I'm a pack rat and had one in my tool box.... also they had u mount the carrier to the tailgate then mount the 3rd brake light brackets which requires u to fish a steel piece into this little hole to screw the mounting bolts into which cause me to drop it into the carrier so I had to un bolt it from. The tail gate and fish it out with an magnet and pliers (read real pain in the ass) it went much better with the carrier unhooked from the tail gate. Plus no info in the instructions as to what position to mount the tire mount for what size tire u are using so make sure u measure twice otherwise u will be removing and reinstalling this part several times. Other than that very please with this carrier and bumper....no bounce or noises while driving and way sturdier than the cheap plastic carrier and bumper which by the way is completely plastic with absolutely no steel in it at all
I will use bullets.
1. Good quality
2. Fairly clear directions. The pictures are crap! Maybe add a link to an install video on YouTube?
3. Ridiculous use of sizes regarding the length of the hardware. It was a guessing game finding the correct bolts for the assignment. Individual packaging would have benefited the user significantly.
4. You NEED the extension for the back up camera in odder to put a bigger tire on and there is no way to open the tailgate separate of the tire hanger, without extension wiring for both the camera and the break light. This is a fail in my book, as I would guess that most people are getting the bumper so they can 1. Hang a bigger tire. 2. Separate the gate and the tire for at least cleaning, if not more.
Non stop noises from this thing. I’ve tightened and adjusted 6 times now. It’ll be good for a week then squeezing and clunking starts up again. All around poor design.
