MasterTop SkyMaster® Fastback Fabric Only Replacement Soft Top Reviews
I was tired of waiting on Mastertop to drop the R.A.T. for the LJ so the itch got me the Skymaster. Having had the Bestop and the OEM hard top I was wanting something different. I like the ability to leave on the top and remove the windows without the factory top sails catching in the wind. I also like that I can get matching soft tops for the half doors.
As I felt the Bestop was a money grab given the Mastertop Skymaster in Twill is $900 less than Bestop, I opted to try it. They both have a center and rear bar and use a header. This 15701024 was a better option as I had an OEM frame and I was able to use that header, door surrounds and tailgate bar and did not have to purchase all new.
The fitment is very snug. Living in Arizona, I did not have to lay this in the heat or sun. I took it out of the box and installed it.
The whole set up only has 2 zippers on the rear window. Everything else has a slide rail to go into place. This leave a thin little strip of Velcro to attach on, but time will tell if that is an issue, the other side has a sizable section of velcro.
The header was not as snug as I was hoping for, but it fits. I'll run it up the road a few days and see how it fits. Maybe make a few adjustments.
This set up uses the rear seatbelt to secure. I had removed mine but had them in a box. I installed the bolts as a point to secure the top. I'll have to run topless to see if this strap gets annoying.
No tramp stamp on the rear of the top is a plus.
The stitching seems fine. I touched up a few loose ends with a lighter as I could tell it was the termination point of a stich. Otherwise it all looks nice.
I left the muckets in place as I feel it fits better around the door frame.
Door fits snuggly and has no issues.
The Velcro around the center frame needed to be super snug. On my 1st test drive I didn't have any slapping, but could hear the wind buffering over the top. I snugged this down and it seemed to help under 70-75 mph. Honestly I don't intend to drive it on the hwy. I am sure I will have to, but this top is mainly for trail use.
Overall I think it's okey. I can run it with or without the vent on and it makes almost no difference in sound. The windows are a little taughter with the vent on, but no slapping on the frame like when I would turn it off on the OEM soft top.
It makes noise, but I would say only just a little more than the other soft top and you can't compare hard to soft, it's in its own ball games.
I'll give this some time and see what I think. Hopefully it grows on me as I always liked the square back.
Just installed this top on Saturday. Install is pretty straight forward. It reuses your original header and door surrounds. It takes a couple of hours. It helps if it's hot outside.
Overall I am very happy with the results.
The instructions on Quadratecs website are incorrect. Mastertop has a revised top which no longer uses the front bow, they now supply the necessary parts.
I would have given 5 stars, but the install instructions kinda suck and I had to really fight with getting the sidebars installed on the o.e. header.
Not shur about the top.love the design better then oem.Had a zipper brake off when installing.Cant say enough about Quadtratec costumer service
