LoD Offroad Destroyer Base Roof Rack Reviews
Overall I think this rack system is very good. It has a very high static weight capacity with solid construction. I do have a few items to share about this system:
- There are many places where the instructions are vague at best, they are not specific about the length of the fastener you need to use.
- The tail light mounts have pre-drilled holes for that are oversized to all you to adjust components. I used oversized extra thick hardware store washers to ensure a secure fit.
- The rack does allow you to open your sunrider top or soft top with no issues.
- The hole plugs are not easy to get into the tube ends and will take some gentle persuasion.
- The crossbar system is easily installed, feels sturdy and looks great.
The manufacturer recommends that you use two people when performing the installation, I did it by myself and most people can you just need to have your tools and materials organized. Since I did work by myself I can recommend using moving blankets to cover your hard top. I am very pleased with the installation overall, I think it will be a good product that we can utilize for many purposes.
Overall it's a very solid product. I just have a few Caveats.
* Don't expect a fast delivery - I ordered this in early Oct and received it in early Jan. Granted, this was part of a large order (base rack, sliding add on, and both ladders). Despite having almost everything packaged in Nov, they waited almost another 2 months to ship because the passenger side ladder was taking forever. So that was unfortunate.
* Install instructions can be pretty vague. - They give you a pile of hardware. You may have 3 different length bolts, all 3/8". And the instructions just say "attach this piece using a 3/8" bolt. But what length? Idk.... So you just have to guess and hope you're right. Also I have like 50 left over washers? There's no way I missed that many washers on my install. No idea what they're for...
* Some of the fabricated threads are... faulty. - Most of the fabbed threads are pretty tight, and that's fine. It'll keep things from rattling loose. But one of them straight up destroyed one of my bolts. I ended up having to go out and get another bolt to replace it. And I'm going to have to use a thinner bolt with a washer and a nut so that I don't destroy more bolts by forcing them through the thread.
* Installation was a little scary. You have to drill into the body. And you have to trim the plastic housing on your tail lights. I knew this before purchasing so I was prepared. But it's still scary. But, I will say, everything fits the jeep like a glove. And it feels sturdy as hell.
* The items were packaged extremely well - there's absolutely no way that anything was getting damaged before it arrived to me. Everything was wrapped in plastic and placed thoughtfully in a large box. Then the large box was filled with expanding insulated foam and quickly sealed so the foam filled the rest of the space so nothing could budge during shipping. It's a pain in the ass to unpack. But worth it!
* It ships freight and they don't pay for lift gate service - This wasn't a problem for me thankfully, because my delivery driver was kind enough to use lift gate anyway. But I expected to have to tear apart the pallet on the truck and unload individual boxes myself. AND THE BOXES ARE VERY HEAVY. You will need a partner to handle these.
Final thoughts - So far so good! Be prepared for a pretty tough, and sometimes ambiguous, install. Beware of jank threads. And have a partner to help you. Overall it feels like a very solid product. I'll update if anything changes after I put it through the wringer.
