Black Horse Off Road Peerless Running Boards in Black Reviews
The main reason I bought these running boards as they are light weight and look great. HOWEVER, do be aware that although they are advertised as being aluminum and therefore will not rust, they are not entirely aluminum. The outer bezel that runs the length of the running board is low gauge powder coated steel, the top deck skin is plastic, but the entire main structure is aluminum. ALSO, keep in mind that these will not fit your Gladiator right out of the box. When they designed these running boards I do not believe the manufacturer actually tried them on a JT. To get mine to align with mounting brackets attached to the vehicle (becuase the running boards are slightly too short meet the end mounting brackets), I had to drill out the rivet and remove the second under bracket from each of the running boards so 4 brackets in total to allow the end brackets to fit in. This is very easy only takes about 10 minutes then the boards will now fit. If you try to install the boards you will run into this problem and see it right away, but the fix is simple. CONVERSELY, Blackhorse could have made the boards about 3 inches longer which would have both looked and fit better as it would have brought the boards closer to the fenders and resolved the issue of the boards being slightly too short to fit the clearance/spacing of the outer mounting brackets. LASTLY, I used the Jeep original automotive grade high strength bolts to mount it to the frame instead of the mild painted steel ones provided. I also replaced all other nuts, bolts, and washers with stainless steel which actually should be a no brainer from the manufacturer incase I want to remove the boards in the future to swap back to rock sliders, something that will be very easy to do once the Blackhorse running boards have been all assembled and bolted the frame and rocker panels. These are great looking running boards, excellent value, and much lighter than other manufacturers as fighting weight gain on Jeeps is a constant battle!
