Reviews for Tuffy 345-01 Security Deck Enclosure for 18-24 Jeep Wrangler JL
This is really nice to organize your equipment with. I'm one of those guys that carries about 250 pounds of tools, recovery gear, and miscellaneous other things. It keeps everything safe from being stolen as long as you lock the tailgate. I also have my CO2 bottle mounted on top. One star off because it is only held down with a couple of small bolts so in an accident I could easily see it breaking loose and scattering tools down the road, especially if you tipped over. Would recommend!
Installing was easy but I noticed that during shipment one of my sides was bent and had scratches. And when installing the top you will need two people.
overall I do like it - just don't like that my spill proof liner doesn't fit after install.
There are three things I wish they could have done better.
1. The wingnuts have burrs in the threads so you really have to use a lot of torque to make sure they get past the burrs and tighten down all the way, QA should have done a better job inspecting these parts.
2. The bushings are near impossible to set in the channels on the side panels. The YouTube channel Wayalife showed the top easily fitting in the channels. This is definitely NOT THE CASE! I'm going to try to use anti-seize grease (that I use when building rifles) to make them slide in. If anyone knows of a better way, please respond to this review. Thanks in advance.
3. Two spots to anchor this box to the Jeep is very weak with a capital very. If they came up with a way you could still have the tie-down loops installed, they could have used the front and back hook points instead of just the middle one.
I purchased this for my JL unlimited wrangler.
Installation is not bad, although I had to go buy bolts that were shorted in the package of hardware. but I have a suggestion as to mounting to floor.
Rather than having two mounting brackets, mounted to the center tie down spaces, which leaves the finished product very flimsy. It would be a much better installation, if there was a bracket at each corner.
I will be manufacturing two more brackets, and redo my installation.
Tufty can send me a check when they redo it. Because, they know I’m right!
Also, the cargo liner no longer fits. Tufty should come up with one fits inside the box.
It does a good job of securing your stuff. Easy install. That’s the good. The bad, Soft top no longer locks in place. Drivers side side panel not tight against side so had to make bracket to secure, otherwise have to manually push out to reengage lid. Kit didn’t include spacers to put under L brackets that mount to tub. Had to make some to keep brackets from bending while tightening down. Lastly I had to drill new hole to attach pivoting lid support because lid wouldn’t raise high enough to lock into place without hitting bar on soft top roof. All in all product is too expensive for these things to not work properly. Don’t know if I’ll ever buy a Tuffy product again
I purchased the model for the sub-woofer. The construction is pretty good and assembly is fairly easy. The Jeep I purchased this for has a soft top and 4 doors. There are a couple of items of note though that should be taken into consideration.
1. This model only fits vehicles that do not have the Mopar rubber mats. It was designed that way but did not state that on any site.
2. If you have a soft top and want to put the top down the locking levers will not lock the top down anymore due to the height of the top lid blocking the tucking pocket. This was not stated on any site including the manufacturer's site nor Youtube channel.
3. If you remove the soft top and the locks engage on the top's cams for the arms, you will not be able to install the soft top back onto the Jeep as it was designed to go back onto it. I had to fight to get the locks unlocked and twist the cams turn enough to be able to bolt the cams back onto the Jeep.
4. The prop arm that is used to prop the lid/top up will rattle against the side wall that it is attached to when it is in the lowered stored position. I solved this by installing two thick round felt pads on the backside of the arm so that they are between the arm and the side wall.
These items should have either been addressed or noted by the manufacturer before being released for purchase. Some of these issues may not be an issue if you are installing this box in a Jeep that has a hard top.
Very easy install, took about an hour. Looks great. Much needed security for when top is off. Only problem, which is pretty much a big problem, the front roof panels won't fit in cargo area with this installed. Would have gotten 5 stars if it weren't for that.
Disappointed that soft top locking levers will not lock the top down anymore. The lid height is too tall which blocks soft top frame from folding into the tuck pocket. Lid needs to be redesigned to include a channel for the top to rest down on to allow levers to lock. This issue is not addressed in the manufactures literature or in the Quadratec installation video. Other than the above issue, the product is good but if I still had the box, I would return the product.
Need to figure out how to adjust top lid so I can engage the soft top locking cams. Had to remove the lid (was very very hard to without two people holding soft top edges up) so I could remove the lid. They need to create some type of indention to allow the softtop cam locks to engage.
I bought this some time ago (before the other reviews) with anticipation to install when the hard top came off, and the soft top went on (I've just done that). I agree with the other reviewers. It does gives me some security, but that's about all I'll say. The rubber that goes on the rear lid lip pulls off if you don't grab the lid right to pull open. The couple of times I've had to remove the lid completely, the rubber also tends to start to come off on the front side of the lip as well. With the lid locked into place, it's fairly sturdy. With the lid propped up or off, the rear sides are very flexible, when lid is off for tall cargo the rear sides rattle when I go down the road. Installing the lid back on, the entire set up moves a bit making it a bit challenging to reinstall the lid. There needs to be more reinforcement. when you go to lock the lid down, you have to wiggle the sides/lid to snap into place. For the money, this should all work better. I did install the tailgate and console box which I really like. Come on Tuffy, we need a better rear cargo setup.
