Really like the retractable sunshade.
This is a fantastic product and was exactly what I wanted. I had to return it for one reason, height. The retraction bar mounts directly over the center of your head. I am 6’2 with a long torso. My head hit the bar even with the seat lowered. If you want this shade and are unsure, measure where the top of your head is in your jeep. If it is near the middle of the roll bars then your head will probably hit the shade. If you are below the roll bars you will be golden.
Keep the UV out… let the breeze in.
Great product for what you get. In the spring and fall, my hardtop is off almost always, but there are some warmer days I would like to have some shade when parked, or if just too sunny. This quickly pulls and hooks when I need it. Now the trick: this is NOT 100% compatible with the hardtop unless you have the sunrider installed. What I did was just loop the nylon from my Mopar grab handles to tie the two ends down and it does not budge. I was originally planning to cut a small hole through the bottom padding on the exposed roll bar to get a bolt up and through, but by strapping it down it serves its purpose and is super easy to put on and off in a pinch. There are two plastic knobs from the bolts on the unit itself that prevent the hardtop panels from being put on top of this sunshade by about 1/4 inch, but it also looks like if I drill a small home on the freedom panels to accommodate those plastic bolt covers, it would lay flat just fine. When typing this out, sounds like a lot, but really is extremely less complicated if you want a simple on and off shade without having to deal with bungees, and can pull open or closed whenever you want. If it could bolt down and close the freedom panels without any self fabrication, I would have given 5 stars.
Love this, although the spring isn't as tight as I thought and using it while driving it does tend to lift up and flip a bit. It still does the job which is keeping the UV off of us so no sunburn. It is out of the way and cannot I forget it's even there in the wintertime if Florida actually has a cold winter. Minus 1 star for the spring tension not being as tight as I'd hoped to keep it from flapping while driving.
My concerns after reading the other reviews of this product were completely unfounded. It is exactly what it says it is.
Yes, it is thinner than a mesh top that does not retract. It rolls itself up. Of course it's not going to be super thick. That absolutely means that it's probably not going to last for a decade, but it's not super flimsy either.
Yes, it billows upward on the highway. One end is attached to a spring-loaded roller. Of course it does. The billowing has minimal impact except that there is a little sliver of sun that gets in on either side.
Things I wish I had known:
* You can see the sky somewhat through the mesh. It still feels like an open-air experience, much more so than running with the canvas top on and the windows out.
* I was surprised how dramatically cooler it keeps the interior. Big bonus.
* Deploying it while parked also keeps the interior dramatically cleaner--even parking under a tree, the gaps on the sides are not big enough that really any leaves get in at all.
* When rolled up, it doesn't feel like it takes up much space overhead--I don't notice it at all really.
The description should say the door surrounds need to be on the jeep. I usually take mine off with the top and doors most days during the summer. Disappointed.
