Installed fairly easy. Didn’t need to lower exhaust. Have JLU Sahara. Outer bolts worked fine, but needed to use the already bolted galvanized on inner section to make sure the bumber installed ok. By the way 110ft-lbs is a lot... all in all looks and works great in the end.
I've always installed Curt hitches and was excited to get one on my new 2018 Wrangler JL. It arrived and was built so much better than the factory Mopar hitch, however the design needs to be adjusted to allow for the factory Mopar wiring harness BRACKET. If you intend to install the factory mopar BRACKET in the pre-tapped holes, this hitch will not allow that. I ended up having to return this hitch and order the Mopar hitch so everything would line up as the factory had designed. I'd rather have the heavy duty construction of the Curt, but since I wanted a factory look for the wiring, this one didn't work for me.
2018 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sport S - The installation instructions state that you need to lower the exhaust off the hangers to provide room to install the 4 bolts. The bolts are to be installed from front-to-back, and on the Sport S model, all 4 bolt holes are clear and open. No cutting of welded nuts or hitch receiver needed! I did NOT have to lower the exhaust. I was able to slide the bolts through and tighten them up without a problem. The fit and finish of this unit is excellent. It weighs approximately 19 pounds, so be careful not to drop it on your face. Unfortunately, I am returning this receiver because it covers the inner-most mounting hole for the Mopar OEM tow wiring harness 4/7-PIN plug bracket. While some may be OK with mounting the plug bracket by just one bolt and thread-locking it, I did not like the crooked, cluttered appearance, so I had to spend the extra $100 for the Mopar receiver so that everything fit nicely on the rear crossmember. If you are considering this CURT receiver for your JL, and you plan on running the "simple" Tekonsha 4-PIN adapter harness that just hangs from under the bumper, then this unit will be perfect for you. However, if you're OCD like me and want everything to look clean and factory-installed, then go for the Mopar receiver and wiring harness.
I have a 2018 JLU Sahara. On my rear bumper the two outside holes are already filled with an existing 1/2" bolt. With this bolt is a nut welded to the frame for those bolts to tap into. So.. if you have the same model as me you will have to cut off the outside two holes of this hitch to fit on the bumper.
First one must have been fabricated on a Monday or Friday. It did not fit around the frame member. This is my first disappointment with a Curt product. Videos of installation show the hitch sliding straight up and fitting loose enough to swing like a trapeze. Holes lined up perfectly as I held the unit up - but it absolutely would not fit around the frame. Probably could have used a jack to force it on. But what about removal? Quadratec sent a replacement and this one fit perfectly. Curt needs to tighten their QC.
This hitch was 1/2 inch too wide to fit between bumper supports (welded to frame) on my 2020 Wrangler Sahara Unlimited, 4 door (JL). Quadratic recommended taking to a machine shop to shave off 1/4 inch on each side, but am looking for a better option.
WILL NOT WORK WITH THE MOPAR HITCH HARNESS!!!
This hitch is longer than it should be and it covers the factory screw hole where the hitch outlet is supposed to be. I was forced to only use one screw instead of two.
Its difficult for me to return it from where I live, so I'm stuck with it and will have to modify it.
