Reviews for Mopar 82216359AA Hitch Receiver Wiring Harness for 18-24 Jeep Wrangler JL
Made bye Mopar for the Jeep
I don't know much about vehicles so this install was a challenge but I got the job done. Like previous reviewers have stated, the Quadratec video for the installation is outdated. The wiring now runs under the vehicle so there is no need to remove interior panels. Get the installation instructions PDF from the product page as the ones included in the box may also be out of date. Pay particular attention to the fuse box hook-up. I hooked it up to the first spot as shown in the video and it blew the 30amp fuse. It took me a few days to figure out why I wasn't getting any power to the connectors. New fuses, now all is well and the wife is smiling.
Pretty easy and straightforward install. I also removed all the interior panels before opening the box and realizing the née wiring harness is designed to run under the Jeep, but it only took 3 hours start to finish and 1 1/2 hours was because I didn’t look at the instructions before starting.
Purchased this kit shortly after purchasing my 2018 JLU Sport, so it's been in use for about 2 years now. Installation was challenging, but I don't have much experience with automotive applications. It took about 3 hours and works great! Instructions and online videos were fairly understandable and helpful. I bought this kit to temporarily power my mini-camper for those late night setup/takedowns and keep the fridge cold while driving down the road.
Just completed the installation of the Mopar 7 way trailer wire harness kit from Quadratec yesterday. I had to purchase a 7 pin and 4 pin tester since I did the install for a future camping rental trip. According to both testers everything is working!! I checked my fuse box for the F36 and F37 30 amp fuses and my JL DOES NOT have the connectors for those either (expected as I obviously did not get the trailer package on my 2018 Unlimited Sport). The package was complete with everything as it appears in the video. Took me 7 hours - but I completely removed the wheel lining as feeding the power lead through the firewall grommet was definitely the most difficult part.
Worked perfect on my sport. I don’t know what the first review is talking about.
The 7way with holder & mount + some what factory
I ended up ordering through a different vendor. Note there is a new part number and the video no longer follows the installation. The wiring now runs under the jeep and you will need to remove the right rear fender liner. Make sure you have some Fender Liner Push Pins ready as the heads tend to break off no matter how careful you are. For the front right fender, it is much easier to just remove the entire fender. There are Youtube videos on this. Make sure you have the fender clips on hand just in case.
Where the wiring harness connects to the fuse box there is a 30 amp fuse. I recommend removing it prior to installing it. Also here is where the video and the install instructions differ. The instructions want you to install on the second boss back from the front. If you have the aux battery there is still power to this junction even after you remove the negative side terminal.
There are a number of steps with a fuel pump with a D in the middle, watch out for those as that is specific to the Diesel Wranglers. When wiring the yellow wires on the driver side tail light go ahead and carefully remove the connector covers (you will need a set of picks.) If you try to install without removing the locking cover completely it will not set right. Save yourself hours of troubleshooting and just remove the internal locking cover as shown in the video. Finally, when installing to the trailer 4 - 7 connector, the black and brown wires look very close even under good light. The black is the larger (thicker) wire.
NO flash is needed. I bought a little 4-way connector to test the system after install. I spent hours with a system that did not work because the aux battery blew my 30 amp fuse during install. Again remove that fuse before installing to save you some headache.
I also installed this in-line with the RV tow wiring harness. Seems to work fine with the wiring loops being Taillight - RV Harness - Tow Harness - Factory harness. There will be lots of wires in the tail light recesses and I recommended a lot of extra zip ties to clean by the harnesses.
This is a long day installing. Not the hardest but it requires a lot of removal of trim parts to run the wiring. Also need to put pins in the wiring harness in a few spots. It is delicate work. Save the work and order it on the Jeep.
Install wasn’t too bad. Make sure you buy your body panel tools so you don’t break anything. Mine did not work after install. Behind the passenger side tail light is the control module. There is a small connector on the red line beside it. My red line wasn’t pushed all the way in. It came from factory like that and I’ve heard of others that has the same issue. Just something to be aware of.
