Reviews for Crown Automotive RT31046 Front Big Brake Kit for 07-18 Jeep Wrangler JK
At this point I've only started with just the big brake kit. The master cylinder is definitely next. I wanted to feel the difference between each step.
With just the big rotors and duel pistons installed and broke in, they work pretty good. Very squishy pedal but if you pump them a bit the really come to life with a stiff, firm pedal. I think that's why the HD master cylinder will help out a ton. I'll add to this review after I put on the MC.
The only reason I give it 4 star is that it did not come with any instructions, the kit should have included shims to correctly space the rotor between the caliper bracket. I have to go down to Ace Hardware to buy some grade 8 washers and measure the thickness of the to get the all matching so I could get the rotor centered. My kit was also missing 3 of the brake pad springs that go on the edges. Besides asking questions on here, there's no way to know that your replacement pads for a 06-08 Ram 1500. That's information that help when getting new stuff.
Great product, however you will need to shim the caliper bracket. It will not center unless you buy some washers to put between the caliper bracket and the hub.

I upgraded because:
-The added weight (tires, bumpers and winch) was more than the factory brakes were designed for.
- They slowed my rig but I felt they were lacking the strength to stop.
- At a light I would put it in neutral because I had to apply more brake pedal to hold still.
- At RC or AOAA I would have to stand on the brake pedal to slowly go down an obstacle or steep decline.
On the road test the pedal felt stiffer.
At a complete stop there was practically no effort to hold still.
This weekend I’m going on a 3 day excursion in the Shenandoah. I’ll update afterwards.
Just installed the kit with upgraded master cylinder and brake lines today. Immediate impression following bedding-in is good. Stops an armored up JKU on 35s quickly- night and day over stock. Expected nose dive when I bang on the pedal, so I’ll probably address the rear soon. Kit also looks fantastic, though I’ll be curious to see how the rotors hold up over time. Overall I’m pleased with the quality, value and performance of the system.
Braking wise, they are an awesome upgrade. The only issue are the wheel sensors. Cables are shorter than OEM cables, and on my set, one of the sensors is causing errors. I will replace with one of the OEM sensors that i took off. Otherwise very happy with the upgrade. You need 17" wheels. 16" may work but it would be close. Installed on RHD JKU.
