Reviews for Crown Automotive RT31046 Front Big Brake Kit for 07-18 Jeep Wrangler JK
Great deal and great product
Great upgrade. Easily able to lock up the tires when needed and no brake fade when off-roading anymore.
Great kit at a great price and a super easy install. I also replaced my master cyl with the "HD" version as suggested. I've found these brakes have made a huge difference in stopping distance and overall confidence, especially when towing. Fits inside my 17" aftermarket wheels but I doubt 16" would work. The included brake pads aren't great, smoked them easily, something never done w stock brakes with original factory pads with 75k miles on them doing the same towing, etc, so I went with parts house semi-metallic replacements and have been happy.
I never liked the feel of the stock brakes on my 2014 JKU with all the extra weight. I left the stock 1" master cylinder on with the big brake kit but there was to much pedal travel, just didn't feel right. Installed the big brake MC with 1 1/8" bore, now the pedal is firm right at the top and stopping power is vastly improved. I was planning on doing the rear but I don't think it is necessary.
Installed on a 2017 JKU Sahara. The stock Sahara 18” wheels clear the brake calipers without issue. My set didn’t come with any instructions or parts list however there are plenty of great videos on YouTube that cover it. Installation did take awhile, mainly just getting all the old parts off. My rotors were rusted on from the NE winters. Once done these brakes feel great. Hope they last. I’d recommend them for any JK owner.
There are plenty of choices for big brake upgrades and it can be pretty confusing. Prices range upwards to $6000. I wanted to increase braking capacity, those high Colorado mountain passes give brakes a once over, and I chose these for the quality I've found in Crown products in the past and the price. It was a fairly simple install; I took my time and took great care and it took me about 4 hours. There are no instructions with this package but there are some pretty good videos on the web. My 2012 JK was sold with the larger master cylinder, so I don't need that upgrade. Be sure to top up your master cylinder with DOT 3 fluid and use brake grease to coat the backside of the brake pads and clips where they slide in the bracket. The package came with Locktite but no brake grease (kinda stange). Neither the grease or topping up your master cylinder was mentioned in a few videos. The brakes work very well. Well see how they do in the mountains. I found it to be a fun upgrade to complete and I may be able to sell my low mileage OEM calipers, rotors, and pads.
Awesome braking. This kit is an amazing deal for the price. You will have to use 17" rims with 5" of back space. My only complaint is that the box came without any packing material so all the parts were loose and moved around. Nothing was damaged but still would have been better to have put some sort of packing material in the box.
Fairly standard installation, but be prepared to set aside about 4 hours. Contrary to what is stated as an answer by Quadratec to a question, below these brake pads do NOT use the standard JK brake pads, but a larger sized pad. Braking is much improved and inspires confidence.
For those who upsized your brakes, these are a must. There are many aftermarket brakes to choose from but I feel this is the best bang for the buck. These are actually 13” rotors. Calipers are sourced from a ram 1500 so pick your poison when it’s time to upgrade pads. Easy install but the caliper brackets use a different size than stock (no biggie since ur toolbox should be out). Be sure to bleed the brakes very good and your stopping power will increase.
