Good reviews
I bought these for my YJ for a new/used grill install that I'm doing. This was just a no brainer since the plastic part of this is 30 yrs old and broke in my hand. The plastic part is why I bought these.
Installed in my 93 yj. Fit perfect and worked great.
These are high quality parts, and it's a fairly simple installation - assuming 'scope creep' doesn't enter into the mix. You pull four screws around the headlight frame, four screws on the bezel holding the headlight in place, disconnect the wire, remove the headlight, pull the retaining spring, slide the bucket out, and push the old adjusting screws out the back.
Sometimes it's easier if you remove the old adjusting screw first, before you squeeze the tabs on the plastic block and push it backwards.
Installation is in the exact reverse order.
Now for scope creep.....My 'original' intent was to just free up the screws so I could align the headlights. Next, I figured the rusty buckets needed attention - that called for grinding off rust (too much work) then having a friend sandblast them, after which I painted them. This is, obviously, complete overkill, and totally un-necessary. Did it anyway....
Installation tips:
Have some WD-40 or LPS available to loosen up the screws holding the headlight bezel in place.
BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING - find a wall and take a photo of where the headlights hit the wall. This will help you get a rough alignment - basically back where you were.
WHEN INSTALLING THE BUCKETS: Slide the bucket slots into the two screw heads, and then use a cable tie (in a loop) to pull the retainer spring into position. Don't try to hook the screw first and then jam the bucket into the screw slots. You could break your new adjustment screws.
DON'T BE SURPRISED - if your old buckets look like mine did. They collect a lot of water over the years. The point here is to install new adjusters - not sweat the part that no one will EVER see. Course, I couldn't just leave it alone, could I ?
BE CAREFUL WITH THE BEZEL - the screw tabs are only tack welded onto the bezel. You might want to keep some JB Weld handy. Don't ask me why I know this. You'll have no problem if you just be gentle. I don't do gentle, unfortunately.
As good as the stock one
