Reviews for Flowmaster 817755 Outlaw Axle Back for 07-18 Jeep Wrangler JK
The exhaust was easy to install. The old exhaust took a little elbow grease but following tips people have provided made it easier. Looks and sounds incredible. The one draw back is that over time, the high heat caused the black ceramic coating to wear off in the center of the exhaust. After contacting Flowmaster, that said that was normal, but I wasn't happy with the change in the look. They suggested using a can of high heat black spray paint to cover up the area. Not ideal, but I followed their direction and it looks brand new again.
Just slapped the outlaw on last night....taking the old one off was a bit of a pain (1.5 hours)...finally got the hanger rods loose from the grommets using white grease & channel locks to squeeze the stub end of the rod through the grommet. Slapped the new one on in about 15-20 ... I also suggest putting hose clamps at the end of the new hanger rods as they don't have the stubs like the factory one & could slide out with enough force...all in all I loooovvve the sound & feel like there's a little more umph on the throttle..two thumbs up!!! Perfect addition to my Banks Ram Air intake :)
As others have said it came with some chips in the painting but I hardly care because you can't even see it, it's underneath the vehicle. But still I can't give five stars when it comes with chipped paint. As far as noise, not sure why others are complaining. It's louder than the stock exhaust but it's not enough to wake the neighbors by far. It has a nice aggressive sound to it, little bit of rumble. I took it for a spin with the top down and it's not too much to drown the radio for sure. Now for installation. Don't waste your money taking it to a shop. I have literally zero mechanical experience and got it on in a little more than an hour. The hardest part is getting the old one off, I had to get my neighbor to help me with the leverage to pop it off the grommets. Once I did that, new one was on in about 20 minutes and ready to drive. I'm definitely happy with the product, it looks and sounds nice and was very easy to install. Like I said before though, can't give five stars to a product that comes with chipped paint.
I was on the fence for a while and finally bit the bullet and picked up the Outlaw. While I still can’t justify the price, I’m not dissatisfied in the least. The finish on the muffler itself is complete garbage and I received mine with scratches, chips and partially painted areas. That said, a coat or two of high temp paint will fix that immediately. The installation is simple once the stock can is off and the look is pretty mean, but stealthy. I’m a huge fan of loud American muscle and have to say, for a 3.6, this is as good as it gets. I’m actually impressed by the low rumble and, while it can be loud at times, it’s what I signed up for. As a previous reviewer said, the volume can be mitigated by intelligent shifting if you own a manual trans. Overall, I’m satisfied. You’ll turn heads for sure when you get on the throttle.
Sounds great went on easy. 4 stars because bolts supplied to mount tips were cheap and one stripped before it was ever tight enough to hold tip and keeper supplied to hold on one of the hangers was too large. Would still purchase again as it does sound great and the muffler.pipe assembly is a nice piece.
A little too agressive of a tone for me. Long trips aren't too enjoyable in the cab, but short in town jaunts make you feel like a badass. Howver, I will be going with a less agressive model.
Nice sound and aggressive looking. Loud, however. Install of new muffler was less than 20 minutes, however took over 2 hours to remove the stock muffler from the hangars and grommets. Very exhausting ordeal working the hangars out of the rubber grommets. So far have not seen any improvement in power only the sound and if you want an aggressive system this is it but it is loud within the vehicle.
My JKU is Japan spec and has no resonator. When i added this muffler the drone was terrible around 2,000rpm. The muffler arrive pre scuffed with decent amounts of paint missing. That said, it is much lighter than the stock muffler and easy enough to install. Will probably add a Cherry bomb to reduce the drone. Idle sound is very nice. Off the gas, it is so quite I though the engine had stalled a few times. On the gas, it roars.
too loud
Horrible sound. LOUD. Made my Wrangler sound like a tuner Honda. Every hill was torture, as it would drone the interior out. Getting on it sounds like there is no muffler at all. This product sucks. I had it on for a week, then ordered the Magnaflow. The top of the Flowmaster already had a huge section of paint gone and was starting to rust. Horrible product.
