Reviews for OMIX 11608.01 7" Fender Flare Set for 97-06 Jeep Wrangler TJ & Unlimited
Built well, looks great, easy to install.
Had to fidget a little with the install but nothing bad. Covers a lot more tire than the stock fenders.
Better than expected. Look amazing. Seem thick and very well made. Came with replacement hardware including nutserts. Did take us about 7 hrs to install.
They fit great, easy to install and they look good. Keeps the mud off my jeep better than the factory flares with wide tires. Hardware is identical to the ones that I removed and no drilling required. Highly recommend this product.
Overall, I am highly satisfied with the cost and finished look of this kit after installation, however I feel this is really more a 4½ star experience, mainly due to the inadequacy of the hardware provided. Omix-Ada should re-think the content of their included mounting hardware kit to better support installs on "stubborn" cases. My 1998 TJ is not badly rusted, but clearly has corrosion due to its age, so almost all of the riv-nuts spun in the sheet metal as I tried to loosen the OEM M5 x 0.8mm x 20mm machine screws, while two held but the screw broke off and another pulled out completely. This made me wonder how I would make use of the included aluminum replacement riv-nuts, for which I was going to have to invest in an install tool for (min about $29 on Quadratec or $20 on Amazon) to risk resulting in total disappointment. Instead I decided to salvage the OEM riv-nuts that remained in place by holding them on the backside whenever possible with a fresh pair of Channel-Locks... That tip WAS NOT included in the install instructions, but I began using that method after learning from the 1st flare removal / replacement. For the locations where the riv-nut broke-out or had to be drilled-out, I used the provided rectangular black plastic retainers for locations where the backside was accessible, and I used nylon hollow wall anchors for the blind locations (again, these tips WERE NOT included in the install instructions). Additionally, I decided to switch to stainless steel screws, even those #10's used with the black plastic retainers, as well as 7/8" O.D. SS fender style washers, to avoid corrosion issues whenever these need to be removed in the future. The hardware upgrades & supplements cost me about $45 at Ace Hardware prices, but I am sure Omix-Ada could easily make the necessary improvements to the hardware kit for under $15 in higher volumes. Hopefully the durability for retaining the black color and brittle-resistance is better for these than previous reviewers have found.
06 TJ Perfect fit.
Work great and easily installed
Great fitment and they fit perfectly. Not a very hard install. Hardest part was removing the original flares.
Coverage
There were no instructions in the box, disappointing. Also suggest pulling it out of the box to warm up enough to mold to your jeep, it makes it go a little easier.
Like the flares. Got tired of mud being slung all over the sides of my Jeep so I ordered the 7” flares. They look really good. Only problem I had was the washer that came with them needed to be bigger.
